Resistance: The interplanetary struggle

Hmm, i see what you mean. I had something similiar happen to me once. Theoretically i got the encounter, but it kept flickering in and out non-stop. I had to do additional correction burn to stabilise it. In real life i would suspect gravitational interference from another body, but in game that places all obiects on rails? Now that i'm thinking about it...maybe it was one of the moons? I was in interplanetary view, and maybe outbound trajectory was too close to Mun or Minmus?

Hey RogueMason, where's that fusion engine on the Lonestar from? It looks cool. Maybe you should also check out the KSP Interstellar mod? It adds an Alcubierre drive - a realistic Alcubierre drive, meaning that it translates the ship through space instead of accelerating it. That mod will also soon add a realistic laser-compression fusion engine with variable ISP and a power requirement of 1.5 gigawatts >:D

The fusion engine can be found here:

Also, I have looked at that interstellar mod quite a few times, having been tempted by that warp ring, but I'm trying to avoid mods now with the exception of Sunbeam Lasers, Quantum struts, and Universe Replacer. I just felt that I wanted to go back to essentially all stock parts and see how I fare, and I'm constructing a Jool cruiser right now with the only mod parts on that being quantum struts. I've sent a stock, manned cruiser to Duna and Dres so far, and this Jool ship looks promising :)

Maybe if I feel like messing around, I'll get the interstellar mod, but the main reason I'm holding back from it is because it comes with all those other bits and pieces, and for me, it's too complicated when I only want the warp drive. Oh well, we'll just have to see if the vanilla game gets its own Alcubierre drive in the future :P

That is a good question. Well, it was recovered, plain and simple, and I'll probably put a monument in Minmus orbit for it. Next-gen Libra-class science vessels should be getting produced soon enough though, and the Libra LBR-030-B will be amongst those :)

You said that you're playing mostly stock now - does that mean that future stories will also be mostly stock? Because it wouldn't make sense for the kerbals to discard the fusion engines. Unless, you know, Jeb visited the fusion-reactor and fusion-engine production facility. While riding an SRB.

Upon their return to Kerbin, and the decommissioning of both Lonestar and Odysseus, Jeb was heard saying that he wanted a bit more of a challenge in spaceflight and that fusion engines made thing too easy, especially when he knew he could fly a ship powered by nuclear thermal rockets to Jool. I guess someone important heard him

Speaking of future stories, you guys will be happy to know that I plan to start writing some up very, very soon. Tales of reaching back out to the planets, and who knows, maybe I can't be bothered waiting for more planets for a grand tour...

Fixed that for you.

The effectively brand-new Odysseus was one of many things to be subject to the dawn of 0.21 and it's save-game breaking, unfortunately :(

However, you seem angry. I'll attempt to appease you with some pretty pictures in 3... 2... 1...

Are you appeased? I hope so :0.0:

I know what they needed, and any enemy on the surface would be buried immediately, or a ship disintegrated if you added boosters

The Rod From God

I can't find the mod on spaceport atm, but its interesting, a several ton carbon fiber rod with some attachable winglets, I haven't dropped one from orbit yet cause of a planned eve mission to sees its clouds with universe replacer, but after Jeb gets back he's taking one to orbit and dropping it :D

If they had those they'd win in a matter of days

'The Rod from God' should be read in Jeremy Clarkson's voice when he exaggerates something.

...

Moving swiftly on, most of the combat took place in Kerbin orbit. Only a few probes got through to the surface, and there would have been ground forces to deal with these guys. Rods from God would have been bad for Kerbal troops, despite the awesome sight of a sleek kinetic-kill weapon screaming through the atmosphere and ultimately slamming into and obliterating a few probes... damn, that would have been a cool scene, actually. Oh well

Scott manly did a video on it, and the atmosphere slows it down a lot.

But imaging it being dropped from beyond Minmus's orbit, like at the very edge of Kerbins soi, where a single tiny move sends you out into solar orbit, thrust retrograde until your orbit is straight down, and do what danny does with his planet buster, keep thrusting straight down until your out of fuel, then let that rod shoot through the atmo at lightspeed

It'd be funny as hell if you managed to hit the VAB dead on XD

Wow, I just finished reading the whole Kraken saga, and it was wonderful! So sad seeing the Odysseus (the old one) wrecked. She was a good ship, and will live on in the hearts and minds of Kerbalkind. You are a very talented writer, and i'm going to go read the next series now. I really like the new Odysseus II-class ship (especially it's AI). The Lonestar and all of your military ship designs are very cool too! Keep up the good work, and it's a relief that the Kraken are finally defeated. :sticktongue:

Reading Chapter 8 as
was playing in the background. Eleven minutes in, synched perfectly as I read that plaque in memory of the Odysseus.

Amazing work so far!

One thing's for certain, there was some damn good music in that video :D

Anyway, thanks for the praise! I hope to have a brand new story at some point in the near-future, but in-game circumstances are holding me back; circumstances that may be nearing their end, mind you, but circumstances nonetheless

It's not a fuel issue, I've been there twice now (just sent a probe). The problem at that point was that I actually could not hit it for the life of me without spending a ridiculous amount of delta-v to get there. It was being very... elusive. Nevermind, Plan-Ex now have a probe around Dres, and the manned mission should follow soon enough :)

I've only been there once, with a two module manned mission, and the service module used WAY too much fuel getting an encounter. We barely managed to slow down into orbit with what was left. Fortunately, I was using the Kethane mod, and had equipped the lander with sensors, drills, tanks and converters, and Bill and Addas managed to get home safely. After walking on Dres.

Ooh, wow, didn't expect to see this up and around again. Just to be sure, have you read the 4 predecessor stories, from Outreach to Project Farpoint? If not, check 'em out through the link in my signature. If you've already read them, well, enjoy this one! :)

I acctually haven't, guess I'll have to do that later. Already read all the way to chapter 12 or something.
