The Future of Doctor Who

So the 12th Doctor has been revealed. Peter Capaldi. For those of you who don't know, he appeared in the Doctor Who episode "Fires of Pompeii" as Caecilius. I imagine he'll fill the role as the Doctor fairly well.

Who are some actors that you guys want to play future Doctors? Personally, I hope Benedict Cumberbatch eventually plays the Doctor. He played in the BBC series "Sherlock" as the one and only Sherlock Holmes. He'd make an excellent Doctor.

I believe the doctor can only have 12 incarnations, so Peter Capaldi will probably be the last. No idea where John Hurt fits in... I read somewhere that he's between Eight and Nine.

Anyway, this guy might be a good Doctor:

Doctor Who will not end while it is popular. This will probably not be the last Doctor and that has nothing to do with what has been suggested or stated in canon (not that canon has ever meant much in Doctor Who).

12 Regenerations, 13 incarnations. So there will be one more at least after Peter Capaldi.

I think Capaldi might stay for a while, he is in the point in his career that leading roles are quite rare, and he himself is a massive fan. He is more likely to stay for longer as he probably isn't going to get into major film roles, which seems to be why people leave the role now.

They have confirmed that John Hurt is the doctor in between McGann and Eccleston, however he's not known as the ninth doctor because it's implied he goes by the doctor's real name, as seen by Clara in the history of the time war book.

I thought the 12 regenerations had already been written out?
the doctor only was limited to 13 because of time lord law.

The 12 regenerations has not been written out in the show at all. There was a joke reference to how he could have 507 regenerations in the Sarah Jane Adventures, but that doesn't count, there has been no reference to it being bypassed or removed in the show as of yet.

Who is he?

That would be Docm77, a well known Minecrafter & member of the MindCrack server. That pic must have been taken at Minecon last year (I wasn't there but I saw a lot of the streams from there including the MindCrack panel where this is from.

It was mentioned a long time ago, in season 1,2, or 3, I think, but they probably aren't sticking to it. They wouldn't just end the series that abruptly, just him dying for good.
