Are the 'scatter' rocks permanent?

Recommended Posts

Stupid question, I know- but I only recently began using the 'scatter' function that adds trees toKerbin and rocks to everywhere else. Do these points remain constant, or will they change around if I leave and reland? It sounds stupid but I want to deploy a base somewhere and not have to worry about it suddenly clipping through a rock. Albeit a non-physical rock.

ahah good question.

I would guess (so don't take it for granted) it is persistent. One way to test it, is to get something near a tree, and then every time you reload the game you just have to check.

Also note, that it is still a work in progress option. we don't get much update about it, but it can change all of a sudden or things get added.

they dont have collision because it would be too resource intensive.

Can't they be made as part of the terrain instead of separate pieces? Kind of like small hills so to speak. I guess that'll remove the option to enable/disable scatter, as they might have to be generated similarly to the new moon craters.

If the scatter function is using a random seed function, where the seed number is always the same, then the rocks, trees, etc..., will always be placed in the same place. That is how the random seed for Forest Objects function in Train Simulator. Such a function allows for the fixed random placement of numerous objects without have to keep track of the thousands of data points for them.
