Why won't these ports dock?

Cause at least one is the wrong way around.

Edit: A bit of careful squinting later, only one is facing the wrong way. I'm sure you can figure out which if you compare them side by side. Do so in the VAB and then have another look at your screenshot.

Out of curiosity, what's the reason for the stack separator between the docking port and the rest of the lander?

The lander isn't making a return trip to the space station and unfortunately the port had to be put on the main view-port of the pod. Once the lander clears the space station for deorbiting, it ditches the extra weight and I can see through the lovely view-port. :)

Yep, I can see that the lander has the docking port on backwards. I agree, I don't see why you need to lose the docking ring, but okay.

Don't feel bad, I once spent an entire hour trying to dock a ship only to realize later I put on a command computer and not a docking port.
