BSC (Better Stock Crafts) - Aeris 3a - Yet another winner!

Always been more into rockets so I've never really done much with planes in KSP, neither building or even flying, in the course of trying out the entries I have reached the following personal milestones; first explosion free plane landing, first actual runway landing, and just a few minutes ago completed my first round trip between the KSC and island airstrips.

Thanks guys.

Your challenge has now broken two games. While testing my new landing overshoot system (which is too good. It ripped the plane in half), the resulting crash froze the game.

Please uninstall all challenges (this may take several minutes).

To make it worse, upon modifying the Super Pointy Air Machine in order to bring the wings back behind the engines and prevent the tail blowing up if you enthusiastically took off, the game decided to multiply the part I was holding by 1000 and lag the game so bad the little worker dudes in the SPH were mooching around at 1 frame every 2 seconds.

When I fired up the game today the craft file had mysteriously vanished.

I now cannot make an airplane that doesn't tilt on takeoff and obliterate each wing, one at a time.

Sidenote: I'm uninstalling hope. It was fragmented anyway.

Well, I've put some thought into that question too, because my earlier designs tended to jerk extremely fast - so fast, that you could easily turn the craft around completely, moving ahead with your engine first. And while it's hard to say exactly how responsive the plane should be, I think if it turns reasonable enough, but doesn't flip out and get into a stall as soon as you hold a button for two seconds, I think you're fine.

Here is our new Gullplane Doublegull!

The gull, an ideal barnstormer and leisure plane.

so basically it's a better gullplane. uses two wings, no need for landing parachutes (just press on the brakes right after landing) but they are included anyway for beginners (they are on action group 3). Jet engine toggle on "2".

It also comes with a Mk-1 cockpit behind it. decouple this and EVA the kerbal to the doubleull's seat for a relaxing, open-cockpit flight.

It is also easy to land, i've landed it on the helipad of the VAB several times before.

My late entry; forced by time constraints. My apologies, but by the damn universe I wanted in on this.

Introducing the latest in aviation technology: The Air Surfing System. A plane for those times when you're like; "I want a plane's plane."

***Craft file yo***

Designed to be flown without SAS. [Caps lock fine control ftw]

Works far too well with SAS.

Takeoff is mandatory, landing is optional.

Ladder kinda needs pinning to an action group.

@brobel I don't know yet what the next challenge will be, but I will probably post is in 2-3 weeks, got some stuff to do ;)

In the meantime:

As I'm writing this, you guys still have ~26 hours left to post your entry

so, there is still time

@Mulbin Why is it, that when I want to take your Jet 3 for a ride I have no fuel? ^^

@GiggleAbout plane responsiveness: I played around with some of the postet planes and I'd say a good plane should by somewhere between my CR Moloch and Mulbins Jet 3. With mine on the twitchy end and his on the inert one.

Same issue here. It only happens if you load it in the SPH first and launch from there. If you load it directly from the runway it works.

@giggle The Bullfrog was super twitchy in its first version so I removed the large control surfaces for ailerons and replaced them with small control surfaces. Even that was still a bit to quick for a Trainer style plane, at least IMO and I have flown real planes so I think that counts somewhat, so I removed all ailerons and the Bullfrog flies much more smoothly. The torque from the cockpit plus the elevators provide plenty of roll control to pull 90 degree bank turns at close to 9 gs when at high sub-sonic to transonic speeds.

Sarcasm now aside my i present

The Mitchells

its a light weight craft that can take of at only 50mp/s~

and can glide at as little as 30mp/s~ with out loosing height,

wile being removable and easy to fly at almost anyspeed

It also has 2 emergency shoot to allow a safe landing in any circumstances,

and the speed This butty is relativly good from its light weight alowing it to go as fast as 200mp/s~ at height around 300m altatude

and has a ceiling of 20km~ before you run out of air wile reaching speeds of 740mp/s~

After some more testing, I've improved the bumblebee a bit, including updated the description field with the flight data I discovered (top speed=457, min speed around 50, range=633km, glide ratio=5.7). The forward gear has been moved farther forward to reduce the planes pitch angle on the tarmac to ~7 degrees, enabling faster landings. I've moved the wings for a better flight experience, and the parachute has been repositioned so that it safely lands when the fuel tank is empty...

First of all: When you want to have fighterplanes like the Me 109 or the F4 you have to be aware, that such a plane have to be agile - and therefore have to be somewhat instable in it's flightcharacteristics.

Such a plane - with an other task - is my SAR I b (search and rescue). It have to be flown with a analouge input device, such as a controller or joy-/flightstick.

On the other hand you wanted an easy-to-fly plane, i think mostly done with the keyboard. And only a basic layout without any clipping or tricks, am i right?

Well, my conclusion therefore are the early jets, witch were'nt so agile.

In fact a lone flying DH Mosquito (originally designed as a fast bomber!) on a recon mission could outmanouver a Me 262 easyly.

Voila, here is my first suggestion: A MIG 17-alike jet.

There are only the nesseceary parts on it. The cockpit-SAS is enough to have a stable flight, witch should be engaged all times, when the pilot is a newbee.

ceiling 15 km

max speed 650 m/s

range (at ceiling with full thrust) 500 km

But because (don't ask me wy) a aircraft with an longer fuselage is in KSP more stable/controlably than a short one, a second suggestion from me (if you don't mind the clipping of the airintakes): The Double Delta III

It is much more foregiving than the short one and can be flown easyly even without SAS.

It's needing only one fuelpump-action: When the pitch of the SAS shown on the lower left during level-flight nearly is reaching the zero-mark, pump the aft tank into that one witch is in use.

Ceiling 27k

max speed 1700 m/s

range 11,000 km (when flown between 23-25km with a speed in the vincinity of 1100 m/s)

Nice to see, that you've put so much thought into the challenge and like to share your knowledge about planes (mine is basically nonexistent, I choose the inspirational picturs for looks only) with us.

However, since the Rules state:

Also, only one entry per participant is accepted.

Wich one is your entry to the challenge?
