You can lend your support to the cause here. After 10,000 people support the project, LEGO has to consider a set for production.

For those that haven't heard of LEGO Cuusoo before, it's basically LEGO's version of Kickstarter. Users can submit projects containing ideas, and models, for sets that they would like to see produced. Once a projects gets 10,000 people to support, or vote, for it, LEGO has to consider it for production (Squad would also have to agree).

Being familiar with the process in which LEGO decides whether to make a set or not, I'd say that KSP has a great chance of being approved. But, we'll never know for sure unless we can gather 10,000 supporters! So tell every Kerbonaut you know, and spread the word!

lego's site has a custom ordering system

you can buy any individual brick of whatever size and color they currently carry

and they have a software that you can use to build a set and then order the bricks accordingly

(i thought it can generate an assemble instruction too)

----

but i think it's too overpriced, ~1EURO per brick.

and i am thinking you might be able to source this kind of lego-like bricks (semi-decent quality) with an MOQ of 2000sets, ~200brick/set, at around FOB shanghai or FOB HongKong US$5/set

but i am not sure, as i have left the toy trading sector for a few years...

probably US$3/set is possible too if you afford to sacrifice a bit on the quality.

a good mold is pretty expensive.

I'd love to...

But it requires a login... I'm not sighing up to something I'm never going to look at again.

It gives the option to use facebook or twitter but using either would give it entirely too much information and power than I'm comfortable with.

I would love to see LEGO make an entire line of KSP sets, especially ones where you could mix & match parts to create your own wacky rockets and then fly them around making woosh noises. display them on your desk.

I beleive the technical term is "Swooshable".

As a side note from a guy who experienced the Minecraft campaign, Lego will need Squad's permission to license the set and I've seen evidence of them turning down sets that reached 10,000 votes that couldn't get free licensing. If they have to pay for the license, it may not happen even with 10,000 votes.

Its a cool idea for a set, though these voted sets wind up being pretty expensive.

I was a part of the Minecraft campaign and helped make the set, and in doing so got to see a lot of what goes on behind the scenes with Cuusoo. While I was never told what the licencing costs for the Minecraft set were, or if there even was one, I don't think that getting a free licence is part of the qualifications. I highly doubt that LEGO got the BTTF licence for free. Really, I see no reason for LEGO to turn down this project. It meets all their requirements, the only threat is whether Squad would want to allow them to produce the set. Currently, I could see them turning it down, since the game is still technically in alpha and all. However, this project likely won't reach 10,000 supporters for a while, so that should help with convincing Squad. At the same time, I could see Squad giving it the go-ahead even with the current situation of the game, and possibly even if LEGO doesn't pay a licencing fee, due to the huge amount of free advertising the game would get.

Also, so far Cuusoo sets have actually had some of the lowest price per part ratios in recent LEGO history. Usually a licenced set has a price/part ratio of somewhere around $.10-.12 per part. But the average price/part ratio for Cuusoo sets so far is about $.08. Past Cuusoo sets have been expensive simply because they have a lot of parts.

AWesome idea! I guess you could have all KSP parts in lego format!

OTher than legal issues with lego selling Squads creation, this has to be done!

ALso, ive been lookin in that lego page and apparently there are 3 different KSP-Lego ideas.

Indeed there are 3 others. One of them ("Mun or Bust!") belongs to me, the others are by other people. I definitely recommend supporting them all!

Very cool idea! but I've been looking around and I found this one, which is a tad better:

http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/47794

It uses the "build your own" style and has cockpit interiors. And it comes with Kerbals!

Anyway, thanks for bringing this up, and if you can top that design... Please do!

I've found that the "build your own" style can be quite constricting when you try to cross KSP and LEGO. It's difficult to get anything other than 2 and 4-way symmetry to work at all, much less look right. So I chose to go with a build from a popular ship already in the game.

I'm working on Kerbal minifigures, as I mention in the project's description. This model would come with Jeb, Bob, and Bill minifigures, and they will be the same scale as the regular minifigures you see in most LEGO sets. Cockpit interiors will also be included. I'm planning on making renders of the minifigures and such in Blender, which is why it's taking a little long.

I'd forward this, if there was a set with all the stock parts, legofied, but made out of standard LEGO elements, so we wouldn't have to have custom moulds, and little Kerbal minifigures ( since KSP is basically Lego, but with rocket parts.)

Unfortunately, I've found that a sandbox-style set that simply provided all the parts wouldn't work out all that well, specifically regarding radial attachment. The builder would be restricted to 2 and 4-way symmetry, and only be able to connect things in certain locations. So, I just went with a popular ship that's already in the game and pretty much everyone knows. Also, Kerbal minifigures are on the way; I'm rendering/modelling them in Blender so it's taking a little longer than I hoped.

But, I am also working on a mod for KSP which basically does what you proposed, short of the minifigures.

Hmmm. There probably won't be licensing problems.

Why? read on!

Some KSP stats (based on forum info)

Total members: 80,000ish

Active members: about 4000

Some Lego stats:

Sets sold: MILLIONS!

People with Lego sets: MILLIONS!

Many more people have Lego sets than KSP. So if say a KSP themed Lego set ends up on a catalog or their website, lots of people will see it. If their interested, they'll but the set, and maybe eventually KSP itself! In other words free advertising! Oh yeah, that's a nice Lego set, good amount of details ;D. If I'm correct, Lego has a program called digital designer or something that lets you build custom things and buy them, but its REALLY expensive, a model like the Kerbal X would probably cost $60.

PS the landing legs makee the model look..... weird.....

Aqua, do not ever mistake a game's forum population as representative of the players. The majority of people who play any game never register on or use a forum.

Even in Minecraft, there's only one registered forum user for every six copies of the game sold so far on the PC (that doesn't count the Xbox sales).

In other words, if you think Squad's only sold 80,000 copies of KSP because that's who's on the forum, you aren't basing that on any valid data.
