What are the capabilities of the stock Heavy Lander? That would be a good place to start.

I think its most basic requirement is landing and taking off from Mun with atleast 2 kerbals all in one stage.

Honestly, I find 1 stage Mun landers much easier to design than two-stage landers. I half suspect if/when we get that challenge we will see 3 Kerb landers that go straight back to Kerbin from Mun's Surface.

My first Mun lander was a three stage Mun rocket. Most simple, boring, reliable, and safe thing I have ever made.

3 kerbals from Munar orbit, to surface, back to Munar orbit, and perferably back to kerbin, all in one stage. Let's do it!

Why don't make it, 3 kerbals from Kerbin to Kerbin Orbit, to Munar orbit, to Munar Suface, back to Munar orbit, back to Kerbin Orbit, back to Kerbin KSC?

Actually, we allready have a lander for Mün-type of bodies - should be do the heavy lander, I would prefer a lander, that can land on Duna or Kerbin and get to Orbit again.

Actally Duna is a very nice scenario, because you can land completely on retro rockets, completely on parachutes or any combination.

Well, how are we going to test..."all" lander submitted? Hyperedit to Duna? I prefer Kerbin without parachute.

Well on the subject of the super heavy lander, My personal opinion is that since we already have a two stage lander, this one should be reusable. With that in mind I think that a Kerbin SSTO would be a bit over powered,

The upper limit of performance I would be looking for is a one way trip from orbit to surface of all solid bodies, with a possibility of return from all except Kerbin, Tylo or Eve.

Anything more would feel over powered for a stock craft, but too much less wouldn't fit the name "Super Heavy". Land and return on Vall would be the bare minimum I would expect.

Starting from Munar orbit, land and then return to Kerbins surface would be good.

I'm assuming that Ampster is assuming that everybody can download hyperedit.

I don't see a problem with that since hyperedit doesn't change anything in the game. If you don't press F11, you wouldn't even know if it's installed.

Yup!

As a personal Rubric I would hyperedit the vehicle into whatever orbit is nescessary from the description. Really, we all have our own personal rubric for determining which is the best stock craft.

It's actually why I like this challenge so much. We have direction and suggestions on what to build and how to grade the different craft, yet we all make personal decisions in the end and discuss different things like old chums.

Agree :D why is that? :P

XD I have no idea why that is. I guess it is just such a great game and I have such little self control.

Edit: I'm already by version 3 of the above styled plane. That one is old. I have already a mind for a version 4 and possibly a partial redesign that might just turn it into a whole new plane!
