Probably usefull Suggestion for 0.23

Recommended Posts

I know my suggestions are probably much to ask for the next update after 0.22 but maybe I give one of the Devs a cool Idea which will be stuck in the back of his head.

1) Fuellines

- It would be cool if you could refuel your stranded spacecrafts by parking a Refueler next to them. Because Docking on a craft which sits on the surface is pretty hard.

I remember a mod Scott Manley used in his Reusable Space Progamm... "Quantum Fuellines" i guess... But that was just a laser transfering the Fuel and didnt worked all the time.

In my mind I am thinking of Kerbals actually laying hoses over the ground to the empty spacecraft. For Quantum Fuellines you have to add a part in the first place onto the craft that will be stranded to refuel it and thats a little bit awkward to think about.

2) Revolving Planets

- It would be cool to have the planets revolve as you move your maneuver node along your flightpath to predict your actual landing Spot. This actually came to my mind as I was driving to work. (KSP never leaves me, maybe I am too addicted)

That would make it easier to adjust your course while coming in from interplanetary space if you want to land directly at KSC again without going into a stable Orbit first.

Hmmm.. maybe this sounds a little like nonsense. I am asking for a forecast of my landing site while I am still a Million Km away. Maybe that makes it clearer. Maybe you can redouce the revolving Objects to only 1 by marking them as your target first.

3) Adding Actiongroups after Liftoff

- Maybe planned, maybe a mod out there. But that should be an implemented Feature at the first place.

4) Sounds

- Right know KSP is only Birds chirping at KSC, Rocketmotors, Decouplers, Atmospheric Effects, REALLY AWESOME MUSIC inside the Hangars and Tracking Station and lots and lots of Explosions.

I am using Chatterer for breaking the silence in space and I am also thinking of installing the Muffler Mod for some more realism.

Anyways, I think the Rocketmotor sounds could use an overhaul. A Mainsail should sound something more like an Apollo Mainstage and I miss the intimidating ramble of the Solid Rocket Boosters which you can whitness at Space Shuttle Takeoffs. Also an LV-N should be seperated soundly from the other engines. Oh oh... by the way: RCS and Ion Engines (a swirling Sound like an electric transformer does would be great because of it's hunger for electricity) are also mute and I am thinking about a Metal-on-Metal Squeking Sound when Docking ports are mating, maybe a "Pffff"-Sound when they decouple again (That would be great for RCS too). (Sorry my phantasy is outta control now)

I think thats it for now, thank you for reading.

To the devs: I dont want to criticise your game at this Point because I am thinking that KSP is the best game out there right now. I just want to give you cool Ideas to make it even better.

Thank you for addicting me to this :)

1) I believe KAS does it in a non laser way. But having it IG, I don't know (personal opinion).

2) Definitly would be great to plan ahead. maybe just having a landing marker on the planet that will show possible landing site. Because if the graphic of the planet rotate, it can become very confusing to know what is where when you have a manoveur nodes.

3) Definitly needed and in the Already suggested list. At the moment you can use the mod Action on the fly.

4) In the Already suggested list, I am sure Squad will work on sound later on in the development. But it's not high priority. The actualy gameplay and content are.

You probably wont see any of them for the .23, since it's been quite confirm in one of the squadcast that .23 will still be about the career mode.

Thank you Ubio, I didnt know about Action on the Fly and a landing Marker would probably do better than the revolving.

Tiny add on - a landing marker would be difficult to predict without running some aero calculations (espeically once they redo aero!), so how about an impact marker - assume no atmosphere and leave that to the pilot to compensate for.

Sounds good, as long as the re-entry vector isnt too shallow, the landing site wont change much.

I believe mechjeb can predict your landing site without accounting for atmospheric drag.

It's an option under landing guidance.

And yes KAS does have fuel lines. A kerbal can get out and attach a winch to the other space craft (if you have the right connectors) then soft dock (connects the 2 crafts without using docking ports) and you can transfer fuel.

revolting planets? That means weapons, which are on the list of things that won't happen...

If you mean revolving planets, not sure how that would impact the physics engine.

Did you read the thing below hes talking about a landing marker

  • 4 weeks later...

A few comments and specific desires for future versions that I have not seen yet:

Aircraft are pretty useless in terms of science -- I suggest that Kerbals create some sort of "X-Prize" system to reward for engineering also. max speed within atmosphere (Mach 1 = 20 pts, Mach 2 = 25), ..., or successful SSTO etc, this could be extended to rocket designs also, mun and back under xx gross weight.

Easier aircraft landing with keyboard, or maybe some additional displays to assist in landing. I've not been able to land an aircraft yet, except via parachute.

Aircraft way points to allow travel to a destination. (perhaps some form of change to the warp system to allow a jump to a way point if the vehicle is in a stable condition)

Lat and long overlays on bodies - especially if more Easter eggs get implemented

I like idea of fuel duct between two vehicles! But, it shoudl require that both crafts have some specific part, some fuel port or something. If you didnt installed it on your ship on Kerbal, game over. Also such operatation woudl be very delicate so transfering fuel beetween two ships woudl be very dangerous, little movement and fuel line is desroyed. So ships in space woudl still be better fueled by docking.
