Yeah, me too :) Previous upgrades were out when i was at work, so i had to download late in the night. Which meant no playing until morning. And very bad download speed, since its afternoon in USA and a boatload of people is downloading the game at the same time :P

So it looks like we start with a MK 1 Command pod, a lvt-45, RT-10 SRB, FLT-200, One of those modular girder thingys, a Antenna and a parachute.

To the VAB!!

Remember, no decoupler in the first batch so you either launch suicidal missions or you leave them all in orbit until you get decouplers and a two-man capsule so you can rescue them.

Alternatively build some crazy contraption with those girders to manage many parachutes and then hope it doesn't tear itself apart when the parachute inflates.

SO we are looking at putting them in orbit indefinitely until we can mount rescue missions. Fun.

That OR sticking to sub orbital flights with small rockets so that the kerbals can actually live. I wonder, have they differenced teh LV-T30 and LV-T45 some to be more apart in .22 like mainsail and skipper or no?

Very Kerbal approach - Jeb approved. :)

I'm rather disappointed that it looks like we'll be starting the campaign with manned missions right from the get-go. I would have very much liked to have seen incentive for sputnik style initial unmanned probes leading up to being able to research capsules (presumedly with life support) for your kerbals.

At present, it seems that probe cores are unlocked rather late in the tech tree, which strikes me as rather backwards, and which skips over a whole potentially interesting parallel to the history of space flight. I think it would be very cool if just getting an unmanned probe into the upper atmosphere was an achievement in the early game, and provided you with valuable initial research to get your space program rolling.

I think that it may also lead to a lot of oddities if you are initially limited to manned missions until you unlock probe cores, like sending manned missions to the Mun before probes. Honestly, I'm not even sure what unmanned probes would be used for if it's easier to perform manned missions.

You will have start a new game for CAREER mode.....science is useless in sandbox

I guess you can still do science and gathering science points, just something more to do.

It will not count toward progress is career.

Your rocket will also work as an crumble zone for the pod.

Without staging it will be hard to reach orbit anyway.

Agree here, and yes without staging most would not be able to get probes into orbit. You would not get the light probes early.
