[PLUGIN][ALPHA-10] City Lights and Clouds on Kerbin/Others

I did not delete the last build I had installed (7) and now my clouds are all flickering:

Btw if its a bug, dont eliminate it fully, adapt it and throw some lightning textures on em instead ;)

hmmm... I would try deleting the old build. If not, was there anything else you did you recreate this?

So I just removed the BoulderCo folder and extracted it again, still the same problem.

I did not do anything else, I installed the mod, went ingame, built a small rocket and launched it.

Edit: oh! :P

Remove old, then install new or...?

Also, could you please name your archive something else then GameData (ie BoulderCo) so I can identify whats in it in the future :)

Could you provide some info on what you did to re-create this? Did you alter the config? Lack's changes are built into this build.

Turns out I somehow had a second gamedata file inside the first one, that possibly was the cause of problems both with this, and ioncross life support. All is functioning normally, and looking wonderful.

Question. If I was to put the city light details texture into GIMP, make the lines a little more squiggly, is there any chance that could cause a bug?

Edit: Actually, I spotted a seem kind of seem thing happening on kerbin, not unlike what Lack's experiments with Eve were having, but much fainter.

I'd love them to be HD too, so I can use it with real solar system mod too (same goes for the clouds)

Is that something you could do?

Ok, created a new release... I think it should fix at least the flicker issues.

Now I dont have any clouds on the launchpad.

I do see clouds from orbit though.

Also, when I pressed revert to launch just now I ended up launching from the grass:

Reverting again makes me spawn on that location again, going back to VAB and then launching again fixes the location.

Yep, that fixed the flicker. The periodic hiccup I see in KSP (every couple of seconds) seems less pronounced, too (although maybe that's because the city lights aren't flickering). Looks good on the ground, looks good on orbit. A couple of minor tweaks I did locally: I converted the images all to TGA (to get mipmaps generated). I converted the cloud maps for Kerbin to a 2048x1024 and a 1024x1024, since I read somewhere around these forums that non-power 2 textures get pushed up to the next P2 size (that could be incorrect info - I don't know what Unity does). I switched the sign on the cloud speeds for Kerbin, so they're moving west to east (which matches the cloud directions at my latitude). I will have to keep flying with this mod to make sure I don't end up having memory problems, but this looks awesome - it rates up there with Chatterer as a "necessary but frivolous mod" that adds a lot of character to the game.

You can see clouds from the launchpad?

Clouds do not become visible for me until over about 120000 meters

That shouldn't be from my mod... It can't do anything like that. I have seen something like that occurring in the "Life Size" Kerbin thread though.

You also might try timewarping... I find that there are "sunny days" at KSP sometimes that have fooled me occasionally.

Not having clouds is also caused by another mod?

Please note I also do not have clouds when im on the correct loctaion :)

Sorry, I meant that the revert to launch issue couldn't be caused by my mod. Did you try timewarping?

Yes, there were no clouds visible whatever I tried (not that there was much I could think of :P) until above 120000m.

hmmm... do the clouds not appear if you launch the game, launch a rocket directly? Or is this only after a revert to launch?

The clouds arent visible, unless when in the space center overview (I just found out)

When i launch a rocket I see no clouds whatsoever, when i go back to the space center overview I _do_ see your clouds.

This time when I launch, I can clearly see the clouds for just a second before it gets "turned off".

This happens before vessel unload.

No change.

In the process of trying to reduce the size of a video I just made for you but its not going that well, do you have a minute (or come to IRC?)

Finally:

You must look very carefully to see it happen.

Hmm... it looks like you are running with an old dev-build I had a while back. Are you running with the Kethane Mod? I know it generates overlays, and I wonder if it could be interfering...

Could you post your KSP.log file here for me to look at? (or at least the lines that start with "Clouds:")

Oh wow... Ok... Hmm.... That is a long list... Firstly: make sure you are running Alpha-10. If that is already the case...

I hate to ask you to do this, but the only way I could narrow this down is to try my mod with the exact version of everything that is being run. The only way I can do this is if you provide the links that you used to download everything... OR You copy the entire KSP directory and one-by-one remove/add mods until it works/breaks. The two that stand out are realsolarsystem and kethane.

EDIT:

OH! Try modifying the radius of the planets in my CLOUD_LAYERS.cfg file. They guy who make the realsolarysystem mod made some size edits that would probably affect the cloud size.
