[1.10.x] SDHI Service Module System (V4.0.4 / 11 October 2020)

Thanks for the help, but, er, what log? It didn't crash.

(Also, what is the other bug that you mentioned?)

In the folder Kerbal Space Program/KSP_Data, there'll be a file called output_log. Upload it to pastebin or such. Alternatively, press alt-f12, go to the debug tab, and screenshot it when you try to deploy the parachute.

The other bug was caused by an old version of SDHI, where the model path for the clamp-o-tron paradock was broken, resulting in it providing no drag and actually just looking like a normal clamp-o-tron.

alt-F12 debug doesn't provide the same level of detail on errors as output_log.txt :/

Ah. Thank you.

The output log is thus: http://puu.sh/8dn5u.txt

Be warned; I have a lot of mods.

I don't know what is wrong but this line

MissingFieldException: Field '.FlightGlobals.ship_altitude' not found.
at PlanetFactory.PlanetFactory.Update () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

repeats all over the place. I think it has something to do with FAR and PlanetFactory. I do not know what to look for in this case. You did actually launch a craft and activate a parachute, right?

No, he said they started deployed. (and don't show up in the staging list)

I don't have FAR installed. And yes, I launched a craft with a parachute, but it started deployed.

Should I try installing the mod on a vanilla install with PlanetFactory, to see if that is the problem?

Howdy everyone! A couple pages ago some people were asking for a more Orion like command module. I just finished tweaking the SDHI files to work with the Apollo-like crew capsule by Ledenko (link). What I did was I copied the Service Module and the Aerodynamic Shell, renamed them, then fiddled with the attachment points until everything fit together snugly.

Here's the attachment points for the Service Module:

	node_stack_top = 0.0, 0.12339, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0
node_stack_bottom = 0.0, -0.675, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0

And the Aeroshroud:

	node_stack_top = 0.0, 1.538, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0
node_stack_bottom = 0.0, 0.9725, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.0

These seemed to work just fine with the rest of the parts in the SDHI mod. Be sure to back up your SDHI folder. I'm still using .23, so I can't guarantee that it will work with .23.5 but I don't see any reason it shouldn't.

I'd do the opposite. Just copy your entire KSP folder (copy/paste) and then go in and delete planet factory. Then start it up, start a new game and see if chutes still have problems.

EDIT: I'm having a brain fart on how to insert an imgur album into this post, here's the direct link, does anyone know how I insert that album into this post?

Thankyou!!! I updated my post with pics of the Apollo Capsule.

Didn't fix anything. Here's the other output log: http://puu.sh/8g3dU.txt

Not seeing anything glaringly obvious. Not a lot of errors. A few but nothing that's a smoking gun.

But you do have a lot of MM configs that are adding things to the paradocks. Including something that alters the action groups? Clarification request: Does this happen as soon as the rocket loads in or when you're trying to launch? If the latter, make sure nothing is adding the chutes to the staging action group.

Well, the parachutes are not in the staging at all. When it loads, the message appears telling me that it's "awaiting negative velocity," so it's deployed on the start.

I do have a mod that expands action groups. If I uninstall that...

You have 2 Firespitter folders in your game data folder that might be what's causing your issue. Delete the folder Firespitter2

Good catch, didn't see that.

He's also only running 1.0.4.1, but so was I and my paradocks worked fine.

I did all of these things, and still no fix. I'm just going to re-install all of my mods, and see if that does anything.

Nope. I started with a fresh Vanilla KSP folder, and re-downloaded and installed the mods... but it didn't seem to fix it.

What benefit is there to the heat shield? I'm not using FAR. It seems like it's just a lot of dead weight.

It's not such much for FAR, but rather, Deadly Reentry.

I'm sure all manned spaced missions to-date would not so easily dismiss heat shields as just "a lot of dead weight".

As Sumghai said it's for Deadly Reentry. If you don't have Deadly Reentry then it's not nearly as heavy as it would be with it. (because of the ablative resource)

That's what I meant...DRR...dang all these moddy acronyms. My missions aren't manned though...they are kerballed, and we all know Jeb don't give a damn about the science behind friction and reentry! :) I've played with both FAR and DRR in the past, among just about everything else out there. They added little to my playstyle, so I pulled them. All that aside, without DRR it's still a three quarter ton part adapter that I'm using purely for aesthetics. I tried the rockomax adapter which almost works, but it flexed a bit too much under acceleration. It's also just a hair too tall and there's the slightest of gaps once you put the cap on top. If I drop the weight of the heat shield to be more in line with the other adapters, will this cause it to start flexing or is that related to some other factor?

It looks damn good.

Granted, that's part of the reason I'm using this mod to begin with!

Well if you're that concerned about weight then you can use the stock 1.25m to 2.5m flat adapter, it actually fits the SDHI system perfectly.

Hah I was JUST editing my post regarding that...they aren't so perfect after all ;)

With the new joint system, you should be safe to reduce the mass without any Bad Stuff happening. As you don't use FAR (I can't see why you'd stop using it, but that's just me) it won't screw your re-entry over, either.
