When do Kerbals sleep if Kerbin rotates relative to Kerbol 4x a day?

So I never noticed it before, but sitting on the launch pad waiting for my launch window and Kerbol passes over head 4x in each 24 hour period. Is the Kerbin day really 3 hours long? Why is it set up on the 24 hour clock then? It is all very confusing, we need more beds.

It's set on a 24 hour clock for our benefit, or maybe kerbals decided that 1 day isn't long enough to get anything done. Who says they have to sleep every night? Maybe they only sleep every 4 nights.

Do Kerbins cry when they sleep? So sad. My next space station with a habitation module I will name Wet Pillows.

They have two brains stacked inside those tall skulls, and one brain sleeps every six hours while the other takes over. This is why we never see them sleep in the game. And also why they are only half as smart as you'd expect from looking at their cranial capacity.

Half as smart as expected is pretty generous. Most of the guys I get just scream their heads off the entire flight/mission. Whether that's from being a 'tard or from being a total wuss is another discussion though.
