Wow, I love te modular internal design of the Konquest, but is it going to be inflatable in some way, like the Porkjet habs? I'd be okay with inflating each one individually.

No, it's rigid/solid :)

over 1500 downloads of ALCOR (w/IVA) and only 65 voters :(

WHY??

this is probably due to how we lack the time to vote because our love for your Alcor has caused us to forget and lose hours of sleep too

even though i actually voted :)

To compliment the poll: I've been using ALCOR for my tests, and testing ALCOR by itself.

First, thank you Alex, for bring to the game (immo) the best capsule and the most awesome inmersion experience in KSP... EVER. No competition here, with the permission of KSO. I pledge a donation as soon as my personal economy go better.

This "small thing" you have here is full of very-good-taste (huge and small) details. Sputnik pioneers photos!? Flight Manuals!? Clocks!? Different light modes!? several very well placed windows!? the best RPM implementation ever!? ... I can go on... Any thing you look here is so well done that seems like a totally finished product. I totally support the request for a work in Squad, for complete.

But the most outstanding of your work: you can use this with a lot of other mods, in WIP, barely with NO problems!

On the contrary! other mods usually compliment the so well done ALCOR exeprience.

For example: if you use this with DOE you will find yourself looking the windows as in the real life!: from "far" distances (zoom out in you seat), you can't distinguish stars when you are close to a huge cellestial body... but as you get close to the windows, you eyes seem to get used to the darkness and you can see the stars! You can use it with A LOT of part mods, and then they look much more incredible and become much more usable with this...

I'm in love with ALCOR. Seriously.

This amaze me constantly and I enjoy playing it A LOT and thinking I'm handling a real space ship! :D

Now, I feel the capsule a bit less responsive in the 0.8 version, but only when I use it in IVA HOTAS.

From EVA perspective probably the difference is just imperceptible.

There is some weird lights from the exteriors, like when you have the up window hatch closed, but the light still visible out of the frame. Any way minor problems, that for sure you are aware and handle it now.

I wish to have some type of specific engine for this capsule, some in the Merlin 1D line, but kerbalized. I mean, some type of high-power/eficiency engine for the end gaming, in order to get the capsule with a yet realistic power, but capable of more crazy things and long rides in flight. But that is another question...

Again thanks Alex, this is fantastic and so well done that encourage the rest of us to do much better things.

I have a suggest : you should maybe put the black side downwards to make it look a heatshield and the white side upwards to protect from the sunlight. That would maybe look more accurate, but it's my opinion. Great model by the way:)

Design of "KONQUEST" modules is based on this great illustration...

... and i really like it. :)

Me too!

NO! The black upper area is to soak up as much heat as possible from the weak Dunar Sun. Heat shields are sold separately.

Just about everyone involved with mars habitat research agrees that inflatable heat shields with habitats which then separate and land is the only way to go. In this example I would expect the habitat goes in vertically, with the inflatable heat shield at one end, and then rotates under thruster power 90 degrees to the horizontal right before landing, and then inflates for superior awesome.

I just ask myself, how to put those modules together, knowing that they land separately and don't seem to have wheels (admitting that I don't put wheels on the craft)?

(edit: added "?")

That's the million Kerbal question. Bobcat's solution was to build a rover with a crane on it that can move habs around.

My solution was to make a larger central hab, spacious rovers that can drive up to it and then several smaller habs which come with wheels and land like the rovers and drive over to the main hab, then to have several much larger habs land in the vicinity for supplies such as pizza and TP.

I have a new idea. What if there were a pair of rovers that could dock with either end of the horizontal inflatable. Once docked, the legs could retract, and the rovers could drive it around, dock it with something else and then extend the legs again and undock.

EDIT: Idea Summary:

1) habitat goes into atmosphere vertically on inflatable heat shield retaining launch fairing

2) habitat drops fairing and heat shield and fires retro motor like my rovers

3) habitat drops retro motor, activates RCS system and radial motors, swings 90 degrees to horizontal and lowers landing legs attached to the hard point hubs at either end

4) a pair of specialized rovers drive over to landed horizontal inflatable and dock with it on either end.

5) hab raises landing legs to become supported only by rovers

6) rovers drive habitat around to find another one dock to it, put it down on its legs again.

OR... what if the rovers had a docking ring that sticks up in the air, like a train car the rovers connect two habs together or carry them around, but land separately?

Think a rover with a pylon sticking up in the air and a ring on it that can dock with the end cap on the inflatable on either side.

I wonder what the actual plans were for the NASA/ESA guys sketching those bases how to land/move parts and assemble them on the surface, makes sense to emulate the real solution, though I can't tell what their solution was at the top of my head, I've only seen a lot of impressive looking moon/mars bases, no deals on how they actually got there or how they were assembled.

"Easiest" solution would probably be folding omni-wheels under the structure, allow it to move around on the surface slowly in any direction.

I had landed module near a target, then perform crazy jumps like this:

then was landed 'node' structure,

j10ViBLl.png

then gently and slowly pulled together both modules by KAS winches

Also, it is possible to attach the wheels via decouplers,

L0ha96Z.png

or build a skycrane...

a loooot of different ways, depends on your particular situation

anyway, I want to leave the choice to the users :)

ohh... my google-English :(

edit:

make some quick test with wheels

Well, I have to say I'm very impressed. Having been away from KSP for a long time, this is one of the things pulling me back in. The community mods have improved a ton. As usual, I screwed something up in the installation, but a quick browse through the topic and we're back on track. I didn't install the SCANsatRPM and MechJeb2RPM folders, because I installed RPM before I even knew about ALCOR.

Well, I guess I have nothing else to say other than thanks for the mod and I'm looking forward to some more stuff from you (looking at the light globe and inline light)... Dangit. Now I need KAS as well. Dangit. I guess it's time to upgrade to 16GB of RAM...

Any one else having trouble getting mechjeb to work in IVA?

I have all the latest versions of the mods required, and the latest mechjeb.

I have checked the directory for multiples.

I love this mod so much, I am going to use it from now on.

RPM will not work with latest dev builds of MechJeb. Only the main 2.2 release.
