Loading time reduction

Hi all,

Not sure if this is worthy of an entire tread but here goes...

I've noticed when loading the game, it take several sec. to load all the flags (about 1 sec. a flag), and with 31 stock flags that's...well you do the math

So i tried moving them all (before deleting) and only keeping my own, and voila

Hope this will help at least a handful of people.

Really!? Not to brag, but my entire game (with mods: KW rocketry, KSPX, mechjeb, chatterer and R&D overview) loads in 45 to 60 seconds... and I haven't even installed it on my SSD.

That's my loadtime as well...

You may have the same issue as I do, a slow hard drive. My stock 7200RPM 500GB HDD is pretty slow in the terms of gaming. It is THE slowest thing on my computer.

Exactly my problem as well.

But i remember a tread about loadtime on low-end pc's and there was alot of guys, that could benefit from this.

Eh, depends on the drive, really. I have run the game on a Velociraptor 10k RPM drive, and the load times weren't any different from a 250GB WD Blue.

There are SO many potential variables to consider here. Not just the individual hardware components (and the drivers installed for them), but the actual OS platform itself! Unless people start comparing their results on a seriously massive scale (enough to get a reliable sampling of most players' rigs and configs), there's really no way anybody can claim to know for certain that one certain element is going to cause or fix issues for everybody else.

I also think frame rate and stutter issues when building massive rockets in the VAB have improved.

That's a real pain! i find that it get worse the more time i spend in the VAB with a high partcount and the only way to get it back to normal, even with the high partcount, is to restart the game. at least it helps for a while

Yeah, loading times are much better. I also think frame rate and stutter issues when building massive rockets in the VAB have improved. What hasn't improved is stutter and low frame rate for big rocket launches.

Maybe ... less mods than before career mode ... ;)

But true, it feels faster and transition between screens certainly is a lot faster than before! :)

Funny thing about your signature... Doing this counts as a mod. It modifes the game.

Have you tried it recently? Because it is a lot better now.

Hehehe I didn't even have mods until a few days ago, I just built really big rockets. Now the only mods I have are Kerbal Engineer (after I spent hours building my own spreadsheet, some one told me about this mod haha) and NovaPunch.

a 7200 rm hd is considered a gaming quality hd. look at the cache the drive, 16,32,64 are common sizes, the bigger the better the drives will perform, I have a 7200rpm, WD blue with 64mb of cache, I can say it's a decent drive but is by no means superfast, takes about 45 sec to fully load everything stock...it scores 5.9 on WEI, everything else scores 7.4+. it is the slowest thing on my computer.

Seems to be the case for me, as well. In 0.21, load times were slow and scene transitions and SOI changes took far longer than before. So far, I've noticed much faster times in 0.22.

I have also noticed much faster load times in .22. One of the nicest things behind research/science for me. Before (i5-3317u and a 500GB 5400rpm drive + 32GB SSD cache drive) I'd experience maybe 100-140s load time for the game itself and scene transitions from VAB to launch pad and worse anything to the space center view would typically take around 15-25s and SOI transitions would also take maybe 6-10s. Now I'd estimate it takes about 60-80s to boot up the game, scene transitions are only taking maybe 8-10s and SOI transitions are also only taking maybe 3-5s.

It makes it much more pleasurable to play the game.

That said, I am really hoping I can pry lose the spare funds this fall to get a 120GB SSD to drop in my ultrabook and pry out the 500GB HDD. I don't need all that storage (I'll cop to having about 150GB on the laptop drive though, but I could easily clean about 100GB of that off). I'd leave the 32GB cache drive in there and set things up so it would be two partitions of 120GB and 32GB (pre-formating of course). I may even set it up so the 32GB would be solely OS. Its fairly slow writes on the cache drive from what I have seen of the specs, only about 85MB/sec, but reads are in the 500MB/sec range. Then do all apps and everything else installed on the 120GB SSD.
