Part model requires purchase in R&D dept before use

I made a new engine by copying the LVT-30 (not sure on exact name) .cfg file and changing some stats on it. It shows up fine for me in sandbox mode but when I try to use it in career mode it wont let me. I have "purchased" it from the R&D building but it is still giving me the same error message and the part is greyed out. I have Engineer redux installed and I have "purchased' those new items and they work fine. Am I missing something? Why wont it let me use my modified engine?? I have tried this both on the zip file game and the hard drive installed version. Both of them wont let me access the engine.

Did you make sure to change the part's name in the cfg? More than one part with the same name causes some oddities.

Yes I named it LVT-30X2

Did you add it in before or after you unlocked that rank? Cause I've noticed the parts from engineer redux are locked on my fully unlocked career, I think because I added it in after.

Parts from engineer redux are unlocked in the first tier. You have to manually go back to the first level and "purchase" them after that they work fine. For some reason my cloned engine is not

Thanks but I already read that thread amd tries their suggestions. My new engine is greyed out in both the zip file version and the hard drive installed version while the engineer redux parts work fine after re purchasing them. Am i missing something?

You are missing a purchase value in the part.cfg if I remember correctly, without that it won't work

But essentially the buy value should be the same as the stock engine correct? I copied it exactly and simply changed the name, description, thrust values and weight to balance it out. I compared my new engine to the engineer redux parts and both of a buy value of 0, and a R&D node of start.

Ok so i did a complete fresh install. Same issue. The Engineer Redux parts work fine, infact this time I didnt even need to purchase them manually. However there is now a slightly different problem, Under the Start node there is now 3 LV-T30 engines listed as well as my modified one. I took some screen shots for you guys to see.

Before purchasing.

and after I purchased it, says owned.

In the VAB, still greyed out.

Are you using TreeLoader? If you are, that could be a problem.

And when referring to the name, I'm assuming you changed the Partname, not just the title correct?

EDIT: Already confirmed stuff I suggested.

The fact you seem to have 4 permutations of the item is pretty weird. Are you sure you didn't keep any extra version in the Game Data folder? IE, the zip file, and different folders? That would cause you to have dupe items, and maybe screw up how the game registers if the part is available.

Ok so I noticed something. The duplicate engines only show up on my saved game data. If I start a new career mode it will only show one LV-T30 engine. I erased my modified one completely, however it is still showing up in my saved game. I have looked through the saved game data folder and there is nothing that I can see about parts. Am I missing something? It seems weird that the duplicates only show up in when I load my previous career.

I didnt change the name from liquidengine to liquidengine (something else)....

I'm a retard.. I thought by changing the description name it changed the name. I thought that LiquidEngine was the variable for all engines, I didnt realize that changed.

Yes, "part name" you want to change, not it's title.
