Am I doing something wrong. 9-2 on x64 bit linux, I've got near black oceans, monotone terrain textures, IE Brown or Green, and from space the coastlines artifact.

The terrain textures seem to be causing the game to drop the graphics driver back to the fallback shaders with 9-2 on x64 bit linux which on my monitor looks like the effects you described.

You sure about that? speed up to night time. If you have city textures, then everything is working as it is supposed to. Right now, there isn't much to the shader, and I haven't optimized the texturing distance.

Oops. Yes, I am terribly sorry, I spoke too soon. I am not sure about that as I now cannot reproduce the message I got one time at the top of my log file about KSP switching to the fallback shaders. At the moment I have rolled back to EVE 7-3 in combination with ATM 3-3 and Proot's pack and everything is fine. I believe I do have a problem somewhere as earlier I was trying EVE 9-2 + ATM 3-3 + Astronomer's Beta pack and then I did not have the city lights and the log reported something about Atmosphere.dll unable to locate EveManager. It is very late on this side of the world and I am obviously too tired to do a sensible diagnosis. Tomorrow I will step up progressively to EVE 9-2 but this time without any config/texture packs installed, at least at first. I am a bit confused by the change from "Clouds" to "Atmosphere" so that is likely a way that I may have broken it. I will try to let you know how it goes.

Also: The Overhaul releases should be ignored. I'm now doing "Build" releases shipped with the push into github.

Okay, so it works, but not with EOO pack. That makes it crash just before the main menu loads.

EOO? These releases are NOT compatible with any existing packs aside from the RSS one Pingopete is working on. Once this is a mainline release, then authors will be able to make packs for it.

9-2 or the "x86-Release/x64-Release?" that is in the main source directory?

I spent a little bit of time reproducing this today, and here are the steps that I took along with a couple of screenshots of the issue:

First I downloaded the x64 Release zip from here: https://github.com/rbray89/EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements/tree/Overhaul

Installed mod as normal and ran game.

Launched a ship

At around 4000km there is a sudden transition: screenshot117.png

As you continue to ascend, Kerbin becomes an opaque blue:

These screenshots were taken from a game with several mods installed, though this is exactly the same effects I saw when EVE was the only mod installed on my system. I am running Windows 8.1 x64, and I am using the KSPx64 Launcher to run the game.

Please keep in mind, these aren't official releases. Dev releases only. This particular shader (atmosphere) is WIP.

I'm more interested in the "monotone" issue you reported. Does that show up when underneath the atmosphere overlay? You can disable the overlay by using ALT+E and unchecking the atmosphere box, and applying.-

Ok I DLed the x64 release, updated the texture replacer default.cfg, I'm running ATM as well. This is what nighttime looks like for me. Note the daytime atmosphere and terrain tearing.

x64 linux. setting maxed, experimental ksp shaders on. Alt+e to disable atmo, crash.

Yeah, the atmosphere is still WIP. Has no lighting yet. It crashes if you try to disable the atmosphere? I'll have to look into that one.

Underneath the atmosphere overlay everything looks exactly as it should. Turning off the atmosphere overlay entirely solves the issue of Kerbin being opaque, and after tinkering around a bit I found that using a _Visibility value of 0.00000005 - 0.00000001 looks pretty darn good. Perhaps it is just that the default value for the _Visibility variable is set too high? Either way, this mod is fantastic! I consider this to be one of the best KSP mods out there, and the new version looks amazing! Keep up the great work.

Yeah, I have work to do on the shader. Right now there is no logic to handle the case where the camera is above the atmosphere layer, so the distance to the ground makes it opaque. That and lighting. I do have plans for things like sunsets though.

Im noticing some odd behaviour with the cloud layer when in high orbits around Kerbin:

I can also say the clouds are fine in the map view.

This is with the x64 release. EDIT: My mistake, its with version 9-2. The x64 release for a few pages had an even worse issue when I installed it (namely Kerbin was neon blue...)

Today I tested again. I confirmed that 9-2 was failing to load but it is irrelevant as you have moved on.

x64-Release loads without errors in the debug log. I now see where you are going with this.

I got some really beautiful scenes, wonderful and exciting work!

I also got the other, shall we say "WIP results", such as the opaque blue effect and the unfinished lighting. A _Visibility value in the range as already reported (i.e. ~0.00000005) allows viewing underneath the atmosphere overlay with it still turned on and I had no problem at all using alt-e to enable and disable the atmosphere and/or various terrain effects. I do find the terrain materials can in some scenes produce a rather bland result (see the comparison made in the last two screenshots); but it is after-all a WIP.

I agree, but like you said it is a preliminary version, I think Rbray has plans to revamp it. There should be some textures for the grass/rock etc, but I feel it lacks some of the original colour depth.

Also rbray have you got around to adding terrain manager support for the other planets? As far as I can see, other than earth/kerbin, they all use the stock terrain and hence the atmospheric shader doesn't work with them either.
