Dres. Dres. What's with Dres.

Recommended Posts

Dres is just there for the sake of being there. Dres. Dres. What are we going to do with Dres? Sometimes I forget it's there entirely. Dres.

Basically what I am asking is..

What are we going to do with Dres? What would YOU do to Dres? Make it orbit another planet? Give it a strange polar orbit around Kerbol? Give it an atmosphere and make it active with volcanoes? Dres. Dres.

Look at it this way. ALL the planets have something unique about them. Moho is such a pain to get to and overheats your engines. Eve has a beautiful purple atmosphere with a captured asteroid, Gilly. Kerbin holds all of Kerbal life. Duna has many easter eggs and geological features. Dres... Uh... Hmm... Jool is the only gas giant, is 10x the size of Kerbin, and holds five amazing moons.

Dres? Oh yeah. It's.. Uhm... Dres.

It's meant to represent a large asteroid in an asteroid belt, analogous to the asteroid belt in our solar system between the terrestrial planets and the gas giants. In this respect, Dres is pretty much the kerbal version of Ceres in our solar system. For this reason I think Dres is absolutely fine where it is orbiting, and isn't just there for the sake of being there :P

I think it's pretty useless on its own, but once a few more large asteroids (like a Vesta analogue) and a whole bunch of small asteroids (some >1km across perhaps) get added to the game, I'm sure that Dres will not feel like it's there for no reason :)

Oh my god YES! How fun would it be trying to get to Dres without being murdered by a nearby asteroid.

Even if the orbit between Duna and Jool was filled with thousands of small asteroids ,which is realistically the most game can probably handle, it would be almost impossible to hit an asteroid without trying :P We send missions through the asteroid belt in our solar system all the time, just because actually hitting an asteroid is a pretty negligible risk compared to the HUGE vastness of space. Flying through an 'asteroid belt' is a lot less impressive than all the rock-dodging maneuvers shown in films :P

I don't mind Dres. It is a rather challenging place to go, although not as much eeloo or moho. I was satisfied the first time I landed and returned from Dres.

And it isn't that boring, try and explore the deep canyon! it is fun! Eeloo is a lot more boring than Dres IMHO

Just yesterday I did a return mission to Dres. I was almost certain I'd run out of fuel, but I didn't!

Sure there were some snags, like a spontaneously exploding engine on the lander (while it was landed) - had to edit to save file to fix it and forgetting parachutes on the main ship - sent a rescue ship up to LKO to deorbit it just for the science!

Today I'm at Moho, and the crew is not coming back... Dres is much friendlier than Moho, despite it hanging out in the bad parts of space.

I heard Dres has a deep canyon, but I never landed on Dres yet.

The canyon is the tourist trap on Dres. not as fun anymore then Mun has all the craters but still nice.

Just landed next to it an a kerbal managed to fall down it, he was falling very fast so I did not want him to impact and used the jetpack to brake and get up this used all the jetpack fuel.
