'Tis the tune of an ancient song;

The harbinger's call heralds harms,

Gathers rich, poor, right and wrong.

Menace be mustered with psalms

And shoes; let the sieges begin.

Every man has their day,

Every man has their flaws and sin,

But all today enter, and pray.

At sovereign behest, the day is done,

But only then, and not before.

The endless songs are sung in fun,

Yet the silent song has solemn core

A call to arms?

A marching song?

A battle cry?

The cycle of day and night.

Now we're just throwing stuff at the wall, and seeing what sticks.

Nope, although it is somewhat symbolically related, if not directly so.
It certainly sounds like something to unite the people against a common enemy...

Warmongering?

Nope. Again, war is related, but it is not specifically about war or anything directly having to do with war itself.

None of those.
Patriotism.
Nope.

Time for a solid clue, I think:

It's a physical object (&/ the use of the object).

Bother. Since I'm rubbish at phrasing clues, that's probably going to make it more obscure.

This probably makes more sense:

  • It's a recreational or competitive activity.

Soccer!

And (soccer) shoes; let the sieges begin.

And an ancient sport indeed

...Boxing?

Fencing?

Hunting?

What part of "debatable" do you two not understand? Pretty much all of those are universally considered some manner of sport. :P

None of the above~

Nope. The shoes have a very good reason for being in there, I promise. :)
