A fated pair, we're quite a bother,

Though one is longer than the other.

While both quite full in all regards,

Our contents differ, claim thy guards.

As time goes by, the longer grows,

Changing with the winters' snows.

All the while, the shorter slows,

'till all our pieces cast their blows.

What are we?

You didn't know what a menorah was Vexx ??? , also how is a menorah annoying ?

anyways, maybe, they are dr. Jeckel and mr. Hyde ?

That actually fits almost perfectly, and is indirectly related to what I was looking for, ehehehehe.

If nobody else manages to guess it, I'll give it to you. If. It depends if the others will end up giving up or not, ehehe.

Ah, of course.

A fated pair, we're quite a bother,

Though one is longer than the other.

Life and death are essentially two sides of a coin; you won't find one without the other. Even seemingly 'immortal' creatures can still be killed, even if they don't die due to age. Life is long, but death is essentially everything that happens after life; death is basically eternity, starting at the moment life ends, thus it is far longer than life.

While both quite full in all regards,

Our contents differ, claim thy guards.

The universe keeps on turning in death as in life, and regardless of whether life is present, there is always a great deal happening. To those of us who ponder the meaning of life, and whether there's an 'afterlife', it's commonly claimed that the afterlife is very different than life is. The 'guards' are us -- sentient lifeforms that watch over other lifeforms. Pets, endangered species, the living things in our world... it's not a stretch by any means to name us the guards of many forms of life.

As time goes by, the longer grows,

Changing with the winters' snows.

The 'winters' snows' is merely a notion of the passage of time, so I suppose it's a bit redundant (just filler, mostly), but this couplet is just talking about how time still passes, even in death.

All the while, the shorter slows,

'till all our pieces cast their blows.

The shorter is life -- as long as life is living, it eventually slows and stops (it dies). Life is always in conflict with itself (different lifeforms competing against one another) as well as the environment around it, as a very function of its survival. But at long last, some time in the far future, it will all end.

I'll try again.

Small am I

Containing that which may be larger.

Plain is me

Containing great treasure.

Fly I cannot

But I am moved miles upon miles in the blink of an eye.

Not blue, nor red or green I am

Except that you should find me upon a morning.

Millions of me die every day

And the next day are replaced.

What am I?
