Sure let me think of something, just a sec...

An Island he protected

Of scarlet he became great

Distinctive attire he wore and

the makes of thistle and three feat

could not match his make

Across a channel of fame

I also made my name

Like thieves I did my deeds

A protector I was too

Of infamy I am greater, for fame I came much too later

Who am I ?

Here's a hint, solve the first part, I'l tell you if you get it, then it should be really easy to solve the second part... Il also help if it gets too hard..

Sorry guys, I've gtg from my internet for a while which means the game is up and whoever makes a riddle first is the winner, heres the riddle with commented notes on the clues, the answer to pt1 was Sherlock Holmes, and the second was meant to be the vigilante Arsene Lupin (though in some cases the clues would still fit Holmes)

An Island he protected -- solved crimes in G.B

Of scarlet he became great -- famous for "A study in Scarlet"

Distinctive attire he wore and

the makes of thistle and three feat -- thistle is the scotch plant (scotland), three feet makes a yard, so Scotland Yard

could not match his make -- Lestrade couldn't match Holmes

Across a channel of fame -- across the english channel

I also made my name -- Arsene Lupin is famous in France

Like thieves I did my deeds -- In addition to solving crimes, he commited his own, and was more mischievious

A protector I was too -- solved crimes

Of infamy I am greater, for fame I came much too later -- he came later than Holmes, and never became as famous as such

Who am I ?
