Little square stones on a flat plain,

Clattering noisily and being driven in, on,

Down, only to be freed once again;

There is method in the haphazard commotion.

A thought, a sound, a sight, bound together,

Kept apart but one and the same forever,

Only one may guide the stone's clatter;

By necessity, no choice in the matter.

Good luck!

Sugar? Crystals? Something in space?

Nope.

Railroad spikes?

Nope.

Here's the riddle again:

Little square stones on a flat plain,

Clattering noisily and being driven in, on,

Down, only to be freed once again;

There is method in the haphazard commotion.

A thought, a sound, a sight, bound together,

Kept apart but one and the same forever,

Only one may guide the stone's clatter;

By necessity, no choice in the matter.

There are two ways to read that riddle:

What can only be kept after being given to another

What can only be kept after being given to another

I hate those kinds of questions. I have no idea which it is, and my mind is kind of burnt out at the moment.

It's a promise. But I have another way to think about it: one who really wants to do something doesn't needs to promise it.

Close enough that I'll give it to you. It's "Your word". A promise is made, not given, but that's a semantic technicality.

Yeah, you're absolutely rigth. Promise is a verb, denotes an action, thus being something you do, you make. But the only pledge of the promise is the word, so... :sticktongue:

My turn: what gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?
