I'm confused why everyone tells me I missied the point of this challenge, when you said that the Saturn V was one of the ships to take inspiration from?

You missed the point/spirit of the challenge by creating a CSM - Lander combo, rather than a single craft. The Saturn V is a launcher, we were mainly supposed to focus on the launcher, Saturn V doesn't mean Apollo style mission.

ooooh! then i should have put in my maassive T-9 launcher...

You STILL don't get the point of the challenge. It's about emulating / improving on the Kerbal X, if you do it either by creating a craft capable of the required missions or just tweaking the original, but it was supposed to be easy to use for newbies while using techniques that could teach them new ways to design / build crafts. No matter how easy you feel rendezvous is it wasn't supposed to be one of the techniques used simply because the Kerbal X doesn't use it.

I suggest that you take a closer look at everyone else's designs and read the rules carefully before the next challenge.

Sploden, three votes. Sploden's craft was my favorite one. It was simple, had very wide error margins, low part count, and looked great. The secret? The use of those tiny rockomax engines. I'm totally going to be using a lot more of them in my designs in the future. EDIT: I just found out that it uses part clipping. However, it still looks very realistic and I think it's not a big deal. I use part clipping all the time, usually! Must be something that makes me believe that it shouldn't be used on stock crafts...

Thanks for the votes! Regarding part clipping, I think a tasteful amount is acceptable and even necessary in some cases, and several of the stock craft already employ part clipping techniques. I did not use the debug menu.

lol I only have a vote so far. At least I submitted a raw video of the whole mission from launch to return landing.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. It invariably turns into a popularity contest with some minor exceptions. I've come to accept this; the reason I entered this time is because it's fun to build under the given guidelines. I know the excellence of my craft regardless of how many votes I get.

And how many rockets do you know roll themselves upright during the gravity turn? :P

Wow, sploden... I did not know that some of the stock crafts use part clipping! I must say, the way you used part clipping was very tasteful indeed! :)

@BlazeFallow: Well, allright, replace the link in your original post. I wont be able to change you .craft in the .zip file until tomorrow

I am hoping to get the same treatment ... somehow non-stock Mechjeb got into the previously uploaded version. Have updated the download content in my original post. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Now, the big .zig should now contain Blaze's and mhoram's updated files. With 39 contenders this is getting rather confusing ^^

Also, thanks for 16 votes! I'm a little confused because nobody mentioned my craft ;)

Still, nice that you guys like my design.

And a special thanks to Johnno - his design put me on the quad LV-T30 track ^^

I entered for same reasons, thought be fun to design a pure orbiter even though I knew it would mean I wouldn't get many votes, actually I'm surprised I got 4 votes must be some orbiter fans out there! I voted for 8 craft 1 vote each, I automatically ruled out anything that used the Poodle as its really heavy cumbersome engine, I also only voted for 3 man orbiters or landers as felt 1 man wasn't very Kerbal X, I also favoured asparagus designs as demonstrating that design concept was key to the Kerbal X in my view.

Overall I'm impressed with the quality and creativity of everyones designs. :D

I think that next time if there's enough people to warrant it we have 2 rounds so that there are few ever craft to test each "round" so everyone can test the craft more thoroughly.(ie only allow 10 entries the first time find a winner repeat and have the 2 finalist be voted on to find the top winner)

After evaluating the crafts, I put down a comparison of the crafts (PDF).

My votes go to:

Andrew Hansen: "Kerbal X Revised"

Blaster: "Reynard Apex Munar Ship"

BlazeFallow: "Kerbal XD"

breakthrough: "Kerbal X Revision 1A"

Giggleplex777: "Kerbal G"

I_Killed_Jeb: "Meercurio Alpha"

Kasuha: "Kerbal IV Light"

Xeldrak: "CROME"

Again there is lots of interesting stuff to be found, although this time I can not single out the one or two best crafts - they all fit major parts of my imagination of the ideal Kerbal X replacement.

-D/v is in the area of 1.1 km(just final stage).

-Final stage is optional as TWR is above 1.

-How were you flying it if you left debris?

-I might add legs actually,If I'm landing with rockets I may as well do it in style.

-Career version has science but fairs fair.

-The brief said reach mun/minmus orbit and return,I don't think no legs can be a criticisim towards myself,Giggleplex, kzauner,or Death engineering.

That was really usefull kinda want to re-vote now.

EDIT:Oh you can.

so far I agree with who's in first place.

@Antbin:Wouldn't the craft with the least amount of stages be the simplest?

and a comment on your comment.

While the lander itself may have lowish D/v the space section is meant to de-orbit the lander when the lander dose the finale landing.(ie. stop vertical velocity with space section, drop it then land with the real lander) and on the sepetron placement that was one of the only places to put them because the top was taken up by a drogue chute.(both of which is part of the "escape tower") hope this clears up some stuff.
