SuperWeegee4000
So I found some articles online that detailed a signal received by NASA in 1998 sent from a galaxy 80,000 light years from our own (nope), out beyond Andromeda (super nope). It began with "help us" (which seems a little too similar to Earth communication structure), and then detailed its position. Evidently, they had destroyed themselves with war. I'm not sure whether to believe this, but if it's true, they were probably Kerbals and they accidentally destroyed themselves by raining boosters down on Kerbin.http://beforeitsnews.com/beyond-science/2013/11/nasa-received-an-sos-call-from-another-galaxy-2444494.htmlWe had no solid evidence of alien life, and then BAM. These articles. What are your thoughts? Is it real? Edited November 30, 2013 by SuperWeegee4000
mdatspace
snip That source seems disreputable by looking at it. I would not trust it.

mdatspace
It's on multiple sites, as I said. Source? The one you cited is disreputable. They claim NASA is covering up something about ISON. Why would they? They say ISON may hit earth(It pretty much burned up, so not a chance). They have a litany of conspiracy theories and they are really hyping events up. Those sources may be just as disreputable. Canopus
As if. Just because multiple sites have the same story doesn't mean its true. Don't be too gullible. The internet is full stuff like this. Edited November 30, 2013 by Canopus
SuperWeegee4000
Okay, first, it never mentioned ISON. Second, I'm not being "gullible," I'm pointing out a thing I found on the Internet. I don't even think it's true, but you can just search the keyword's and you'll find plenty of articles. Canopus
they probably just all have the same source then.
mdatspace
@Weegee It did on its site. I looked around. I would like you to list other sources.
sal_vager
This is more conspiracy theory than science, or outright hoax at least. The only signal received so far that may be of extrasolar origin is the Wow signal, and there's no way to know for sure. Canopus
All the other sites (that i found as early results) look totally not trustworthy.
Kerbart
"NASA simply managed to not get much publicity." Of course not. An organization that is always the first on the chopping block when budget cuts come along will keep something like this on the down low. God forbid it sparks interest in space exploration.[/sarcasm]A case like this will either not be published at all* or get a Kennedy-Assassination-kind of attention. Anything in between, like this, is simply unthinkable.* read The Cassiopeia Affair by Chloe Zerwick and Harrison Brown, in which an excellent exercise is done on how such a message would be constructed and decipheredâ€â€a message for other civilizations would be nature be deciphered in weeks at most, as it is meant to be deciphered by alien civilizations)
OdinYggd
Guys, you know by now that conspiracy theories and the like are not allowed here. If this was legitimate, it would take a top class conspiracy to explain the lack of any credible proof that it ever happened.
