How to get to the Mun with tier 3 Sci?

Recommended Posts

So i am at Tier 3 in Sci and i wanne get more Sci but it is hard when you don't get alot/Anything of just Orbiting Kerban. So i see alot of guides but there are for the Demo or for people who have somehow completed the game but still needs to see a guide. So any help? If you help me i would bee happy:)

Only part that you really need to unlock go to Mun is the decoupler, so you can stage. Well there are ways to do that without decouplers but that's a bit cheaty in my opinion ;)

Here's Scott Manley's excellent Mun video, it's an older vid in sandbox so you'll need to adapt a bit, but almost everything applies as is

Well, getting anywhere is simply a matter of having enough delta-V. Let us assume you already have a ship that can get into LKO. From there, all you need is about 900-1000 more m/s to get into a free-return trajectory to Mun and back into Kerbin's atmosphere. This might not even require a modification to your existing orbiter design if it's already somewhat over-engineered. Anyway, such a flyby, glomming up all the science in both high (just inside the SOI) and low Munar orbits (near Pe) will get you enough points to make a lander next time. Do the same for Minmus. Then land on Minmus before Mun because Minmus requires much less of a lander.

Tier 3...are you referring to General Rocketry/Stability/Survivability, or are you beyond that? I put together a Mün lander just last week that utilized tech from that level...

That first image is bogus - I ultimately only had three outboard stacks on the booster. If you go to copy it, you might try four stacks just for good measure/plenty o' thrust.

If you want something a little less beefy then this will get you to the Mun. It'll even land on it with care, although you're better off redesigning the upper stage a bit to make it less top heavy.

The only part you might not have (not sure quite which level of the tech tree you mean) is the Stack Tricoupler. You won't have the FL-T800 fuel tank either but you can use two FL-T400s instead so that doesnt matter.

edit: Ignore the ladders too - they're only required for landing and there's a ton of science you can get in Munar orbit first.
