Gliding parachutes

Right now, parachuting is just boring "sit down and wait".

What if we could control the fall of the parachute, making it head to a certain direction?

That would help a lot at making bases on Duna and Eve, even getting close to the KSC more preciselly

I'd certainly be in favor of it, personally. Wouldn't put a high priority on it, but it would certainly be a nifty feature, and I believe steerable parachutes were on the drawing board for some real-world spacecraft designs as far back as the 1960s.

What a clever suggestion. I like this because it would be fun, and unlike a lot of suggestions, is probably actually doable because the code for wings is already there, and a flying parachute is just a fabric wing you deploy. It might be implementable as a wing that has a higher drag coefficient than normal parts do.

I know that 0.23 was planning to bring parachutes that won't auto-cut once you're on the ground (similar to what the Space Shuttle's chutes were like), so gliding parachutes might be possible as a mod in 0.23, or a feature down the road.
