Please fix long loading times and crashes first!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if the developers could focus on the bugs in game, such as all the crashes that happen and the long loading time when mods are installed. This problem has really annoyed me. Loading times with some mods take about 2 minutes for KSP to start, and with some of the mods turned on, the game will crash very often when switching from the hangar to in game, 1 crash every 20 minutes perhaps.

I would rather the developers fix some of these major bugs first before continuing to add features.

Let me put it simple, as you're kinda new to the forums.

The game has a 4GB ram limit, which is imposed by Unity (KSP's engine), and there is nothing the KSP developers can do about it.

When you chose to install mods, you agree that you're not guaranteed anything. Installing more mods obviously makes loading times longer and the game more prone to crash.

Not that modding is a bad thing either. I love mods, but there's a limit, and installing lots of mods may make you go above it. "Heavy" mods like NovaPunch or FASA might be causing those problems. Try editing out the parts that you don't need. :)

If your game crashes with mods installed, and not without mods installed, that can mean 2 things.

1. A mod is causing the crash. Find and remove.

2. All the mods you have cause the memory to fill up. Overfull memory causes crashes. Because KSP is 32 bit, it can only use 4GB ram. So remove some mods

that's one thing that everybody wishes was fixed... even devs...

but it's a unity thing, not in control of the KSP dev. crew in any way. - but it is well known and the inconvenience it creates is widely understood (we all get that when loading mods aplenty) so I think we're all just waiting for the unity developers to figure this one out so that everyone can go and be happy modding our games freely...

but nothing can be done 'til then - just sit and wait

easiest way to reduce loading times and crashes for Squad is to disallow addons and plugins. In fact without those it runs nicely fast and smoothly, so let's do that...

It will also do a lot of other things to improve stability and speed, as it greatly reduces the codebase in several critical places.

And of course, nobody will be able to blame Squad for crashes and poor performance caused by addons, which is most of them.

Overall, seems to be a win-win situation to me.

Betty Crocker needs better recipe writers. I took their tuna noodle casserole recipe and added pork sausage and chocolate to it, and set the oven to 500 degrees instead of 375 and it turned out awful!

And Subaru needs to concentrate more on quality. I bought one of their cars, swapped the engine out with one from a Mack truck, removed the tires so it was on the rims, and drove down the Freeway at 100mph and the thing just skidded off the road.

I wonder if that is to subtle
