Simple Part wish list

post lists of any simple/vital parts you would like to see added to the stock game. easy.

please avoid posting things like "warp drive" or "kethain extractor" or anything that requires or introduces a whole new game mechanic.

Some current parts are place holders, or are due to be expanded/updated, so feel free to point them out if you like.

I'll start:

  • Mk 3 Cargo Bay
    a hollow cargo bay with doors, to fit the Mk3 fuselage part set.
  • Mk 2 Cargo Bay
    same as above but for the Mk2 fuselage.
  • Stratus-V Cylindrified liquid Fuel Tank
    a radial LF&O tank. maybe a pointier version of the radial RCS tank.
  • Oscar-B Mk2 Fuel Tank
    2x/3x length of the Oscar-B (this could be used in place of the radial tank above
  • OX-STAT-XL Photovoltaic Panels
    a larger X4 version of single Photovoltaic Panel

ALSO would like the Rockomax Brand Adapter to have some fuel capacity added and would also like to see the Mk2 and Mk3 fuselage part set updated. they're looking a bit dated and don't quite fit with the current art standard.

what basic parts would you want to see added or updated?

some more wing panels. moar science parts (camera/telescope/spectrometer/magnetic field reader/ and something so probes and rovers can get surface samples)

also im a large fan of cargo bays. it would make me feel like such an astronaut deploying a space station part that way

agreed, but id say all the chutes need revising.

yup, i think i agreed with you on another thread regarding this.

yeah makes sense, you could use the Cubic Octagonal Strut for this. its mass-less!

But before any new parts are added, Squad should focus on improving the look and feel of the existing parts (art pass, IVAs, retexturing, balancing). Something like what happened to the landing legs.

And then on to new parts!

Since we are talking about cargo bays. How about a service module part for rockets so you can place your RCS tanks and other smaller parts (there is a mod for it but it would be nice to make it stock). That way you'll have a more slicker rocket without parts sticking around it.

KSPX has 0.625m reaction wheels, doesn't it? So it's only a matter of time before you get your wish for stock ones. Hopefully they get around to integrating some more of the KSPX parts into the stock catalogue in future patches.

For me, I would love the following:

  • Thin 2.5m & radial cylindrical versions of the Materials Bay

The current module I feel works fine on early 1.25m ships, but becomes a hassle/eyesore to include in 2.5m ones, as well as in multiples using the revised system in 0.23.

  • 1.25m inline Mystery Goo Container

So you don't have to bring two on every ship just to maintain symmetry.


  • 1.25m & 2.5m cargo bays

Preferably with doors, and preferably with a set of interior attachment points that don't require excessive fiddling with Editor Extensions. Going to echo OP's request by chucking in a further one for coverage of the other fuselage formats.

  • Collapsible rover wheels

Not quite "simple," but it would be fantastic if the rover wheels could be folded in much like the landing gear or solar panels.

Since we are talking about cargo bays. How about a service module part for rockets so you can place your RCS tanks and other smaller parts (there is a mod for it but it would be nice to make it stock). That way you'll have a more slicker rocket without parts sticking around it.

I've actually had good luck using the 2.5m reaction wheels as a service module. The radial symmetrical stuff can be done with stock, but I'm almost sure you're going to need Editor Extensions to fit anything in the middle without it occupying the base part's attachment point. It takes a good bit of fiddling to get the hang of how to get parts in there, but the resulting craft look quite snazzy.

Good point. id be more than happy with texture/model reworking to take place first. The B9 aerospace parts look fantastic. really nice texture work there.

@kiwiak: Agree, Procedural fairings should be in the stock game (if they work as described - i have not used them). they could be made to work with the current drag model too.

eg: parts inside fairing have drag value reduced by X%

I like those solar panels too but i think there role is being filled by OX-4W 2x3 Photovoltaic Panels, i cant see them adding them, but id be happy to be proven wrong.

just thought of another thing. if and/or when Mk3 cargo bays are added it would be cool to have teakables option to seal the cargo bay and use it as a science lab. seeing as the science lab module is/will be too big to fit in a MK3 fuselage.

Larger and smaller pivotable winglets

0.625m fuel tanks of more lengths

small radial decouplers

right-triangle structural panels (half of a 1x1)

2x2 and right-triangle photovoltaic panels

landing legs that are longer than a Poodle engine

radial rocket engines in the 200-300kN and 5-10kN ranges

0.625m and 2.5m ion and nuclear engines

an ant engine that isn't terrible

and pretty much everything else anyone said here

edit: I also want to see the ability to choose from a variety of EVA suits and packs for your Kerbals, such as:

EVA suits:

- standard space suit

- flight suit (lighter but not airtight)

- pressure-suit which enables deep diving or surviving thick atmosphere

- thermal suit which protects from temperature extremes and keeps them warm

EVA packs:

- standard EVA suit with RCS thrusters

- parachute

- jetpack with greater thrust but less control than standard EVA suit

- explorer pack with survival rations, a battery, and a short-range communications antenna

- no pack for reduced weight
