Looking forward to a finished command pod! Focussing on it for the initial release would be a great plan as you can later expand the pack with additional parts. No need to finish everything before releasing something.

P.S. I absolutely love where you're heading with this. Keep it up!

well actually doesn't sketchup already come with a .DAE exporter and that model is still exceptionally good for something made in sketchup.

It's good for sketchup. But you haven't seen exceptional yet.

I play in Sketchup all the time:

Okay, random progress update (am I doing these too regularly?).

The Service Module will probably use the Jettison Module for those fairings, which won't be distinct parts of their own. Thanks Greys for the suggestion.

As for an ETA (if people are still interested), at the very least maybe a week or two, though I can't guarantee that. Creating textures from nothing in Photoshop has proven the longest task so far.

Yes, the solar panels are maybe a little flimsy, this will be probably be tweaked later on.

As for RasterPropMonitors, maybe. That's for fairly far in the future though, and I'll need to message the mod owner regarding this before I make any plans.

Also, thanks for all the feedback so far.

I'm certainly very interested in the command pod itself. The other parts look promising too, though I'm hoping that you'll consider a partial release containg just the finished command pod, following up with additional releases as you finish more parts.

I'll see what I can do. The capsule still needs a few tweaks before even a partial release, but I can always update it further in subsequent releases.

Looks great!

It may get some niggles from realism enthusiasts, on the basis that real-world LESs are generally external to protective shrouds so the shroud can protect the capsule from LES exhaust. In the case of Apollo, the LES and protective shroud were a single part, not separate parts.

Me, I prefer the appearance as it is.

Afterthought: Having that much space between the nose of the shroud and the mass of the capsule may cause stability issues during Launch Escapes when used with FAR. Basically, there is too much drag too far up front. It might be better to make the shroud fit the capsule better, and have the LES bolted on the front of that, or put rockets in the shroud.

My experience with FAR in KSP is minimal so far, so I'll have to test the capsule and escape system for a more stable design. Thanks for the suggestion, I never would have noticed this was a problem otherwise.

I really like the look of this part set; I admit I'm a sucker for a well designed capsule + service module system, and the only other ones that really meet that criteria right now are the SDHI additions for the Mk1-2 pod the TKS pod and service modules from the KOSMOS pack. With some good texturing this could be just as nice. :)

Looks very good! ^_^

But again - too many parts at the moment, IMHO. The only needed and pretty unique thing here is the capsule itself. During the RAM limitations nowadays many mod users and myself will just refuse all unnecessary parts, and prefer to replicate whole design with stock or parts from common mods.

Do not get me wrong, this is a very beautiful work, but... yeah...

So I've mostly modelled another part, this one a first stage engine. Sadly, this new engine has a mesh triscount of over 20,000, though I know of a few areas where large savings can be made. Also, the physics mesh will be significantly simpler.

Nice, but oof on the poly count. One area I can see are the pipes, you could get away with 6 sided cylinders and they would still look fine with smoothing.

Especially considering eight of those pipes are jettisoned along with the fairings and won't even be seen very often. It would be no great loss if I removed them.

I just checked, all pipes have 24 sides each (the default setting).

Sorry, I can get carried away with modelling sometimes.

Don't be sorry! If you want to make it, make it - anyone who only wants to use the capsule can do that or you can even make a separate download.

And about the pipes - 24 sides is way to much, I use 6 sided tubes with pretty rough bends and at the scale it's visible, it works well. You could probably get away with square tubes if you can crank the smoothing higher than 90 degrees.
