Computer Failure at KSC

Recommended Posts

Oh no! There was a computer failure at KSC! But you still need to send a kerbal to the mun...

Rules :

1. No SAS modules. Only use on-board SAS.

2. No power-generators other than engines.

3. Batteries ARE allowed, but only two.

4. No gimballing engines!

5. Only rockets and RCS, dem jet engines files were on Jeb's computer!

6. No winglets... ahahahaha!

7. No refueling, because the docking ports are powered by Kerbalsoft.

Points :

The points are awarded to the people that have completed the challenge, and not to the people who didn't do it.

1. Follow the rules. +1

2. Cheater! Break one of the rules. or more. -2 for every rule broken

3. Play it in a new career save game. +4

4. Do it apollo-style, minus the docking.

Uh...okay. By "send a Kerbal to the Mün", you want us to do a landing, or just a flyby?

You might want to re-think point entry number 4. By which I mean assign it an actual point value.

As for doing it Apollo-style without docking, I say its tricky but possible.

Would like to see the OP's entry...

What's Apollo style without docking?

I'd guess decoupling the LM (MM?) and then decoupling the ascent stage, and then EVA to the CM instead of docking.

From what I can tell, this challenge seems kind of lopsided. You either do a Munar landing with tier-0 parts only, or you get at most 1 point. I can get 1 point with few problems but I've seen people land on Mun with tier-0 parts, so I know I won't win. I'll just be in a big group of people tied for second place.

What's Apollo style without docking?

Apollo 13 style, I guess.

anyway

- I don't think we have to land

- but if we do, I don't think the Kerbal has to survive

- but if he does, I don't think he has to return

SAS modules are banned? No problem, just put more command pods. Or just put RCS on. There's no rule that we can't activate the SAS function.

Only two batteries? No problem, just put more command pods.

No winglets? No problem, there's plenty of other control surfaces.

Follow rules? Of course. I always follow rules.

Easy to orbit under those rules;

Just be careful managing power usage. There were no extra batteries as well as the LV-909 has no generator.

The capsule is more then enough control to manage flying a single Kerbal lander.
