HotRockets! Particle FX Replacement + Tutorial

Is there a way to increase the width of an engine flame? I've managed to increase the length of the flame by setting energy = 1.0 2, but I can't figure out how to increase width.

Also is there a way to offset the flame (like the old fxOffset)? I tried searching previous posts in this thread and the question has been asked, but I didn't really find an answer.

EDIT: Alright, figured out the offset, but still haven't gotten the flame width yet

This is so cool! So, so so cool! Love it.

However, I noticed something that makes planes look a bit... off. On jet and turbojet engines, as on all other engines, the intensity of the particles is based on the current throttle setting. However, those engines take time to spool up and down, and it would look much more natural if it was based on the thrust instead. Right now, if you fire up the throttle to max on the runway, the jets are producing very little thrust, but there is a crazy amount of exhaust.

Otherwise, this is amazing!

Ok. What do you mean by rescript? Is it just a cfg edit or something more complicated?

It's essentially additional cfg parameters with the additional plugin. If I'm reading the threads right, you should be able to adjust the size of the effect based on mach and atmospheric pressure.

Check out the SmokeScreen thread for details: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/71630-0-23-SmokeScreen-Extended-FX-plugin

So this is now by-nc-nd licensed?

Or it always was and I've seen it now?

I had a new nice set of flames ready to share... ;.;

Well, if OP want try it and maybe allow his distribution... just let me know.

Where is the licence specified, I can't find a mention of it in the OP nor at the SpacePort page?

Thanks, found it. The relevant values were

 size = 1.0 1.0
fixedScale = 8.0

That's unfortunate, there's no exception for releasing your own original materials for use with HotRockets?

That's fine with me, the mus are just different numbers to effect the style as outlined in the guide.

would it be possible to have just the smoke plume and not the fire tips of the exhaust? is the smoke plume sitting unused in the hotrockets 1.0 download or is it just waiting on your harddrive? how is your bug testing progressing with getting flame + smoke?

The newest version of the mod has it functioning because of Sarbian's Smokescreen plugin which is included. Check out the 2nd image, with KW engines, to see the difference.

I love the look of this particles, but sad that i need to remove it from my game, because it is changing the behave of the game.

The first thing is the fps that goes down, but for this i could continue to use.

But the second one, is that it change a lot the performance of my Heavy Hybrid Lifter (pic).

Here i can show how, in the table:

With Plugin:

High_________5km_____10km_____15km_____20km

speed_______120m/s___260m/s___460m/s___720m/s

dV Expended__1700_____2800_____3900______5200

Without Plugin:

High_________5km_____10km_____15km_____20km

speed_______215m/s___330m/s___550m/s___880m/s

dV Expended__1100_____1700_____2270______2800

I don't really know why, but one thing that can be is that i use in this rocket overlapped jets, so instead of having 12 jets like you see in the pic, it really have 20.

I would love to use this mod, but until this have a fix, i will be only watching the tread.

But thanks anyway.

Is it possible to change the flame colors by editing the textures alone or do I have to learn how to use Blender and go into the .mu files? I'm fine with the current effects, I just want to recolor some of them.

sorry if my question was unclear but i am wondering when the full collision mesh smoke will be ready for release. the .gif posted by nathke way back on page 1. this seems to be the most realistic looking smoke... do you think you will be adding it to hotrockets? has nothing changed from what the first post reads as

"It uses stock smoke effects because I kept running into massive bugs with custom smoke+custom flames"

Many of them are colored with the emitter. I can make duplicates without that if there's certain ones you're having trouble recoloring.

I'm removing that line =). The bug is gone with the use of Smokescreen, however Hotrockets does not have collision on by default; if you'd like to test it out it can be set to "true" in the cfg right now.

So...I'm probably gonna get yelled at for asking this, but how do you install it? i read the entire thread, and i saw how to install it when it was in like the second release. so much has changed and i haven't seen another way to install it.

Is it possible to have multi-particles? Like blue on the middle and pink/yellow all around?

Looks for Component Space Shuttle. It's SSMEs do exactly that (I suppose that's the kind of effect what you want).

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
