Spartwo
Returned to the struggle with this SSTO after a month, have grown a hatred for cargo bays.Rather than the brute force approach of before I've tried for a more airhoggy design. It's the same but slimmer.Mk99It's only working now! Slam_Jones
Tried to make a propeller-powered plane, and, after several iterations, ended up with this:I've since changed up the propeller so that it's thinner and longer (and overall looks more like a real propeller). The propeller turns, but only due to the wind passing over it. The power comes from the four Tweakscaled jet engines just behind the prop.Originally, they were attached to the prop, so that the smoke would twist and create artistic spiral patterns, but it was very inefficient and bumpy. Mad Rocket Scientist
Docking in the air So far everything breaks, explodes, etc.I have one word for you: Not the klaw (Actually, that's three words) Docking ports work better for vessel to vessel docking. Redshift OTF
Trying my hand at a Mk 3 Skylon. I'm not sure whether to expand the cargo bay by 50% or not. Would that be better?

Would that be better?http://i.imgur.com/mbjTdg2.jpgLift to weight ratio, keep that in mind, you're probably going to need to clip more wings in the wings or the fuselage. I do think the cargo bay should be a tad bigger though

RocketPilot573
Hey all, I need some ideas on improving this prop. It's one of those .625 meter reaction wheel driving things. Unfortunately this plane cant quite fly for a number of reasons. I can't get the prop turning fast enough to get above 20 m/s without it glitching through the bearing. Is there any parts that happen to be any better at holding it together? The usual landing gears are far too huge to fit in this design.Adding more wings to the plane is pointless at that just makes an infiniglider.BTW I'm spinning it clockwise (as seen from the front of the plane looking back).EDIT: Also is there anything I can do to the wing part of the prop to increase thrust (like angle the wings a certain way)? Jetenginestar
EDIT: Also is there anything I can do to the wing part of the prop to increase thrust (like angle the wings a certain way)?We my old research says that the optimum angle is 25 degrees, although I'm not sure how much have changed since then...Is there any parts that happen to be any better at holding it together? The usual landing gears are far too huge to fit in this design. Not sure if this thread helps, there are some small bearings designed by other players... You can try others surfaces with more lift power, or try to clip 2 small surfaces togeter to double the lift power. Done this you should notice a consistent improvement of performance. Btw, yes, changing the angle of the surfaces can help too.
