Brilliant news!

My question is, will the features of Kerbal Edu, namely the metric system, be available to standard KSP users?

Agreed, I think that a lot of the features you're working on for KerbalEdu (including Paul's suggestion above, and the "tools for problem solving with ship designs") would be fantastic additions for the main game.

Sorry, Paul. Currently, there is no plan to add features unique to KerbalEdu into the regular, public release. If you know any teachers, you may want to start bugging them :)

Great work putting this together! One question: about how long will it be until the official release? Thanks, you guys are awesome!

Thanks for the kind words, Thomas. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Doesn't KSP already use metric? I sure see meters, km/h, and newtons ([kg*m]/s^2).

If they didn't, it would make the equations harder (not to mention different).

So that means the mod itself won't be publicly available? I'd love to play the 'lessons' that will be included. It would be a great expansion to the scenarios we currently have.

Maybe modders will be able to add some of the features to the basic game? It would be a shame if the educational value of KSP wasn't fully available to the public. I'm sure there are lots of parents who would like to use KSP to teach their kids more about physics, or kids who's school can't / won't buy the Edu edition but still want to get the benefits.

I'm assuming that there are some features that simply won't work, but things like fully labeled metric measurements and problem solving tools should translate well enough. I'd happily buy that as DLC if they wanted to keep it separate from the basic game.

To answer the questions of whether or not you will personally be able to access the Kerbal Edu version, as taken from the Kerbal Edu website:

"In the future all customers who have bought the KSP licenses (>1) from us will receive the edu mod for free!"

(source: http://www.kerbaledu.com/#!purchase/ck0q)

I'd assume it will be available as a download similar to how pre-Steam KSP was originally distributed?

That appears to mean that you get it if you bought kerbal space program from TeacherGaming.

That also says if you purchased more than one copy. At least that's how I read it.

If they made the mod publicly available for purchase for non-edu licensees, I'd get it.

Metric system and other systems for easier data comparison and integration with other school topics

I read this to mean that the special educational version of KSP allows the user to enter and exit the Metric system. Imperial units, perhaps, idk, arcane or extinct measurement systems?

  • 3 months later...

Any updates about the status of Kerbal EDU? I seem to have subscribed to a newsletter but haven't been getting any reports on the status.

In relation to this, I want to know if there are any mods out there, that allow for "engine level" designing and construction (i.e. individual engine parts, i.e. combustion chamber, nozzle, etc), rather than modular construction.

Thanks.
