I've a big problem with FF now, none of my ribbons will load. Whenever I open the FF hall of fame where there should be ribbons there are only black textures, I have tried altering my graphical settings and reinstalling FF, but nothing has worked. Yes, I do have the latest version.

This is actually a problem with Active Texture Management, not with FF itself. For the fix, see this post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67246?p=1080147#post1080147

nereid's been logging in...

G'day All.

I had a word with Nereid the other day. He said that he's been a bit busy with work. He is keen to get back into it, and he will as soon as he can.

At the moment I'd like to get a list of all the bugs that I can keep in one place for him. I'll try to keep this updated too. As far as I've been able to read, these are the major bugs and the circumstances in which they occur:

Bugs

1) Pressing the F key is bringing up the Final Frontier screen. Should be Alt-F (?). Possible conflict with Toolbar? Happens in flight and in EVA.

2) Ribbons appear as black ribbons. Possible conflict with Active Texture Reduction?

3) Scrolling through awarded ribbons log only goes for a couple of lines.

4) Kerbals getting the 6 G's ribbon when they go on EVA (details in http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67246?p=1044318#post1044318). Not 100% reproducible yet, but it seems to be easy to trigger.

5) The Certified Badass ribbon cannot be assigned from in-game, nor is it displayed if you force it by editing the hall of fame file. The bug seems to be specific to this one ribbon.

6) "accumulated mission time" is given in earth units, needs to be given in Kerbin units.

Any others? I want information on when it seems to happen, and whether there's any possibility that there might be a conflict with another mod.

Major feature requests

1) Ability to remove an awarded ribbon.

2) Add vessel name in mission log

STM's ribbons to do

@ EVA specialist

@ Rover driver

@ Probe controller (for use with RemoteTech 2's remote command centers)

@ Badass field repair

@ Using a jetpack for surface flight

I'm going to work on some custom ribbons to be slotted in for various things that I have thought of over the last however long. So I'm willing to take other suggestions there as well.

SPH: FF toolbar button doesn't show in toolbar. Alt+F works.

AC: FF toolbar shows, turns green when hit, but no window. Alt+F doesn't work.

R&D: FF toolbar shows, turns green when hit, but no window. Alt+F works.

Everywhere else: Toolbar button works, Alt+F works.

Could this be because you haven't added the button to the toolbar in those areas?

If he's taking feature requests, could I suggest removing hotkeys entirely and just running off Toolbar? Both do the same thing anyway. Also, I'd like the ability to assign various kerbal different ranks and jobs. Stuff like Pilot, Engineer, Scientist.. With various ranks such as Junior, Senior, Chief etc.. But important things first, fix bugs and things before new features are looked at.

Interestingly, although I've uninstalled FF (because the F button toggling the window got far too annoying), I still play like I had it installed. I still choose different kerbals for each mission, even though there's no real need to. Please let FF be fixed :(

Mission log times/dates don't seem to be accurate. Would also like vessel name recorded in mission log.

The newest version already lets you assign both jobs and ranks within that job. There's a table in this post.

SmarterThanMe, two more bugs to add to your list:

  • Kerbals getting the 6 G's ribbon when they go on EVA (details in http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67246?p=1044318#post1044318). Not 100% reproducible yet, but it seems to be easy to trigger.

Can't comment on mod conflicts, sorry. If I have time, I'll make an FF-only game and get back to you.

Here are some of the things I've been using custom ribbons for in my save. Pick the ones you like:

  • EVA specialist
  • Rover driver
  • Probe controller (for use with RemoteTech 2's remote command centers)
  • Badass field repair
  • Using a jetpack for surface flight

If he's taking feature requests...

To be clear, I don't think that (while he's away) we should be thinking of feature requests. Just the major ones.

That said...

...could I suggest removing hotkeys entirely and just running off Toolbar?

Personally, I'd agree with this. *shrug*

Also, I'd like the ability to assign various kerbal different ranks and jobs. Stuff like Pilot, Engineer, Scientist.. With various ranks such as Junior, Senior, Chief etc..

This is part done already (although I think more is planned).

Roles.png

These are custom ribbons that you can assign to your Kerbonauts.

What these mean:

(3) Qualified - Mission Scientist : For having the necessary skills and knowledge, attained a higher degree in a relevant scientific discipline, and completing the space mission training program, and thereby qualified to conduct advanced scientific research as a member of the Kerbal Space Program;

(4) Qualified - Mission Operations : For having the necessary skills and knowledge, and completing the space mission training program, and thereby qualified to manage control, life support and navigational equipment aboard a craft as a member of the Kerbal Space Program;

(5) Qualified - Mission Engineering : For having the necessary skills and knowledge, and completing the space mission training program, and thereby qualified to manage engines, power, fuel, electrical, mechanical, computing, and communications equipment, as well as to conduct repairs inside craft and in EVA as a member of the Kerbal Space Program.

...but Nereid decided to edit down the text.

Mission log times/dates don't seem to be accurate. Would also like vessel name recorded in mission log.

Yep. I'll add that.

The newest version already lets you assign both jobs and ranks within that job. There's a table in this post.

OK, I'll add those two. Thanks.

Great. I'll add them to my to-do list.

Change it to "awarded ribbons text log" just to more specifically identify that it's the text at the bottom not the ribbon graphics themselves

Oh yeah. That makes sense. Good point.

Latest bug list here.

Are there any circumstances where it doesn't work, or is it all the time?

Well, I haven't managed to make these work with 0.23.5 (even with clean install). I think the flag ribbons used to work with 0.23 though.

The two custom ribbons are just like the badass one.

I would like to see the "wing ribbons" be replaced with "wings" for Astronaut (Kerbalnaut), Spaceplane with star and star/wreath for master and chief pilot ratings respectively. Gold for pilots, silver for mission specialists/engineers. The wings would be about 1.5 times the ribbon size and always positioned above the ribbons.

Not sure if it possible, but when looking at the Kerbal's individual ribbons, make it into like a logbook with all flights, space time, ribbons, ratings and wings.

I think that could probably be wound into the rank system, but I don't think that it's going to be Nereid's priority when he comes back.

I discussed my idea for the rank system back at http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67246-0-23-Final-Frontier-0-3-9?p=1026884&viewfull=1#post1026884

Isn't that already there in the ribbons awarded log?

I am hereby also requesting what has been requested before: the ability to remove / revoke a ribbon from a Kerbal who shouldn't have received it, using the existing in-game interface for viewing/adding ribbons..

For some reason, right-clicking on a window causes it to disappear permanently. I know this can be undone by remove the .dat file, but it's still a pain.

Permanently even after restarting the game? That's strange. The right-click thing is kind of a stock GUI bug but I've never heard of it being perma-permanent...

Yep. Already got that one.

Eh? This seems weird. Circumstances? Right click behaves normally on mine.

I'm so glad this isn't an isolated problem just for me!.

I cannot get FF back, even when I start the game again, it's just gone. I was on the main screen and I guess I right clicked it and it went..

I really like this mod so I hope it gets fixed :)

I have an interesting issue. I ran into a bug with another mod that caused my starting Kerbals to be reset (I can't reproduce that bug, sorry) and as such, after recovering my kerbals they don't have any ribbons or missions completed. Is there any way to recover that data or am I going to have to assign them ribbons manually?
