Suggestion and discussion: Achievements and stats

Recommended Posts

KSP should have achievements!

Accomplishing achievements will give you reputation and science.

Some achievement ideas: Get to the Mun and back, get into orbit and come back to Kerbin, Research 5 science techs.

Another side idea I came up with while typing this thread is stats.

Stats don't earn you anything. They are just there so you can feel ashamed about how you play too much KSP. (Just kidding.:P)

Stat ideas: Hours played, total science earned, farthest you've ever gotten from Kerbin, techs researched.

Here you can discuss achievements and stats and how they would work. :D

Doesn't KSP already have achievements in the shape of the Science archives introduced in 0.23?

Might be nice to have a way of bragging about your progress via some uploadable scoring mechanism, just so long as it doesn't depend on a certain, ahem, water vapour-based service. But then that's already in "not happening" as listed here.

Those are steam achievements, not game achievements though.

I mean achievements that are actually in the game, not just for Steam players.

And I agree science archives kind of are like achievements, but they are planet data, surface samples etc. I mean achievements like "Get into orbit around Jool" or "Complete your first suborbital flight"

Achievements should be under a tab in the R&D facility.

There are achievements. They're not used for anything, and there aren't many, but they do already exist (they print things like "First Orbit Achieved" and suchlike in the debug logs). I'm guessing they've got the framework laid down already and will get to achievements when they have time for it.

Yay future achievements :D

At least we know they might be coming in the future, but what achievements should there be?

(I'm obviously trying to keep this discussion from dying... :|)

And what stats should there be?

Stats should be somewhere either in the pause menu or also in the R&D facility.

Stat ideas:

Hours played:

Total science earned:

Total successful lands on other planets or moons:

Space ships launched

etc.

Achievement ideas:

First orbit

10 successful orbits

100 successful orbits

First successful landing

10 successful lands

100 successful lands

Send 10 kerbals into orbit

Send 10 kerbals into orbit in a single flight.

Please keep the discussion going. :(

and people are already complaining about the grind...

I don't want to be forced to do specific things in a sandbox style game, which achievement hunting is all about.

Not really. Achievements could be something you can work towards after completing the tech tree and all of that. You aren't forced to do achievements

right, in no game you're "forced" to do specific things, but if you want to get anywhere at all you have to do it anyway.

And see the list he provided. 100 of this, 10 of that, 1000 of such. That's grinding.

I'd be in favour of something like "visited Eve", "landed on Tylo", "returned from the surface of Duna", things we now keep track of in our heads, as being somehow remembered by plaques or statues at KSC. But that's as far as it goes.
