suddenly my kerbals keep floating away!

Recommended Posts

All the time I used to EVA a Kerbal - do a report and hit F to reboard with no problem. Now suddenly I'm having a series of accidents where I hit EVA and the next thing I know they are floating away and I suck at the wacky rocket pack interface so I lose them.

Any ideas on what might have developed to cause this? For a while I thought I might have mounted my ladder to close to the hatch but that's not it cause I move it way down. I even did an EVA ON the launch pad before taking off with no problem just to test that out.

OK. I figured it out. I plopped a clam-o-tron docking port onto a one man capsule and when the Kerbals emerge they bump their green heads against it. But hasn't this happened to everyone? How can I use the docking port if it keeps me from doing EVAs?!

It has happened to many of us. You just need to make sure no other parts overlap the volume where the Kerbal materializes when he goes EVA. That can be tricky because their collision boxes (if that's the right term) are a little larger than the figure you see. It may require putting spacer parts between other parts and the cabin.

But as always, the best advice is TEST ON THE GROUND BEFORE YOU FLY YOUR SHIPS. Avoids all kinds of problems.
