I don't want these parts to rely on plugins (except the rover) so it's going to stay the way it is. Just imagine the little kerbal in the portrait is remote controlling the probe via quantum communications.

So, just a couple questions then, and I'm sorry if it's been asked before bbuuuut...

Do the solar panels have animations yet, and if so, how do you use them?

Do the docking modules work yet, You know.. like.. flying a piece up, then flying another one up and attatching them?

Taaa :D

1) Nope. I want to animate them eventually but I haven't had the time to learn how to animate.

2) Nope. They will be made functional once docking gets added into the game.

Pelf, put this in your part .cfg:

// --- internal setup ---

CrewCapacity = 0

INTERNAL

{

name = GenericSpace1

}

I've beed keepin' an eye on this mod for a pretty long time, but what really annoys me is, that these parts STILL do not have a texture...
ive been waitin for textures and for a pretty damn time

Patience is a virtue. Such comments won't achieve anything except p.ssing off the mod maker.

OK, I have completed an extensive investigation into the Planetary Probe pack, and have the following comments/suggestions:

-In my opinion, the heatshield and aeroshell (I call it the backshell) are backwards. You want the pointy end facing forward, not toward the rocket...

-A second parachute for the Instrument Ball would be nice. one that fits inside the capsule, perhaps?

-The heatshield should be able to eject. kinda hard for the instruments to work with that in the way, yes?

-If you implement the second parachute, the backshell/Mach Chute need to be able to be ditched. Maybe make the backshell a decoupler?

-Everything has a slightly explosive tendency during a "hot" landing, i.e. not opening the chute until about 10 seconds to impact. also, that tends to snap the parachute off. o.O

Other than that, very nice! I have been using it to "test" new techniques and technologies. can't wait to see what else you bring to the pack.

Cheers,

the rover isnt in the probe pack? :S

It's just a preview release because people were saying they really wanted to use the probe. Also, the rover is pretty messed up. The mesh has some shading issues that I can't fix and it stopped working after I scaled the mesh up. I wouldn't get my hopes up for it being released in time for 0.17.

Thanks for the feedback.

1) Backshell is a better name. I'll change that. The parts are backwards because I was having issues with the parachute opening upside-down. Use WASDQE to rotate it pointing up.

2-4) The idea was to make a probe that's like the smaller of the pioneer venus probes. I'll look into making one that opens up exposing the instrument ball.

5) The idea was to have the parachute open at very high altitudes, not seconds before impact. I don't know if it would be possible to fix the parachute snapping off but I'll play around a bit and see what I can do.

1. OK, I figured as much. It just requires the command pod to be flipped as well, which raises merry hell with mechjeb commands. (think of rockets taking off, then promptly pitching over into lawn-dart mode... >.<)

2-4. OK, I thought it was intended to emulate the Galileo drop probe. Maybe both versions?

5. I know. I was just trying to land as close as possible to a specific set of coordinates, and delaying the opening is the most sure-fire way to get close. I have yet to test my .cfg edit that should strengthen the connection. about to test that now.

I'll see about flipping the mesh. I forgot that it messes up mechjeb.

can someone tell me that probe's making order? :Z i know its only 4 piece but couldnt find right combination its just not fits? :Z

Start by starting a new rocket. select the instrument ball command pod. Go to the "Structural and Aerodynamics" tab, and find the parts. The Heatshield goes below, and the Mach Chute or Aeroshell goes on top.

Hope this helps.
