Perma-death, firing and the trio

Recommended Posts

So here is 3 things I think should happen:

Firstly I want perma-death for career mode, I have killed Jeb 3 times and some other guys as well but after a few in game days their back. This needs to change because, one it's career mode, two it means we actually care for our kerbals.

Second I want to be able to fire astronauts, I have more then I will ever need and it's clogging my list, but I cant get rid of any of them.

Finally I want the main trio to be non default in career mode, when I play I want it to be MY space program, I want to choose the astronauts I want. While I'm fine with them being in the for hire list, I do not want them to be there at the start, I do not like them and personally I like the random ones better.

Anyway those were my thoughts. :)

The first can be done by a quick save file edit.

In the persistence, there is a section that reads:

DIFFICULTY
{
MissingCrewsRespawn = True
AllowStockVessels = True
}

Simply change MissingCrewsRespawn = True to MissingCrewsRespawn = False and you have permadeath. The other two are good ideas, though I think some people might want 'the trio' in their career, therefor your point about firing effectively makes the last point irrelivant (and more appealing) since it gives people the choice to do so at the start of the career.

A few updates back this did happen actually, on some new sandbox games at least, support was getting quite full of threads asking where Jeb Bob and Bill were....

Ah. *sigh* can't please everyone. While many of us (myself included) would like random kerbonauts, soon as you give it to us, people start complaining.

And that is why I think having a fire option to fire them and hire three randoms is the best we'll get without starting a forum war.

You can always get rid of unwanted Kerbals by sending them on an extended vacation. Build large habitable complex somewhere (near KSC if you're lazy, in orbit or on Mun if you want to have fun) and put any Kerbals you don't want to see again there. Of course that's just a workaround, but it's quite easy to implement. The only downside is you'll still see them in the 'on mission' list.

That and an extra unwanted flight.

I revisited an old test over my morning coffee and have a working "random trio on new game" plugin if anyone's interested. I don't really know where else to announce it because it's a trivial plugin.

Also you cannot just kill to get rid of them, if they add a reputation mechanic it could look quite bad to the press "BREAKING NEWS, local space agency kills employees for more room!"

What? Unacceptable! There's no reason at all they should have been caught when it would be dismissively easy to make it look like an accident! rofl

Sad thing is, my last few career games, My first flight is just to crash the trio into the VAB to get rid of them...(permadeath) it just gets annoying using the big three all the time just because they're at the top of the list and I don't always want to micro manage my crew.
