Unmanned before Manned tech

Recommended Posts

As i said in the title, it looks backwards to me (well some aspects of the sceince research unlocks anyhoo).

Wouldn't it be more cost effective and viable to make the first few unlocks, UN-manned items, ie probe componants / systems, just as it would be in real life?

I mean would you send kerbals in space first and then probes when you know whats there, or probes first to see if its safe to send kerbals in future missions?

Sending unmanned probes to map the Mun before sending kerbaled missions to the mun and other planets seem a much more logical approch to me.

So my suggestions is, wouldnt unlocking probes (unmanned tech) first, make more sense than unlocking the unmanned tech after you have been all over the

universe with manned craft?

As it stands IMO unmanned tech is pretty much useless unless used as a fueling station to refuel large craft for deep space missions, and my

suggestion would give us a reason to "TEST" rocket designs without loss of Kerbal life.

Just think of Jeb's wife getting all them post it note's from the KSP explaining that Jeb wouldnt be coming home as they cant find all the bits!!!!

Jebs kids asking where daddy is?

Jebs old mum dying heart broken, cos Jebs dad couldnt understand the reasons and commiting Kerbalicide.....

The Damage that could happen ot the Kerbal Space Programme is Endless unless Changes are made now!!!!!!

If we went how we did in real life, in terms of rocketry development, we'd be sending up largely uncontrolled craft that can basically do nothing but follow a precisely-set series of manoeuvres, while we track it and hope it doesn't do something wrong or blow up. The first "unmanned" craft weren't anywhere near as sophisticated as KSP's probe modules are. :P

Sadly, in real life, Unmanned DID come before Manned.

Look at the Sputnik.

Anyways, Yes, Unmanned before manned, but, seemingly as it is, apparently kerbals have a different culture than ours, and have backwards technology.

luckily, Kerbals are different from humans so we don't have to exactly mirror earth in everything.

And as Kerbals hand fly spacecraft all over their solar system, where we use computer guidance and control systems, it's only logical that they'd invent manned space flight before unmanned.

The end.

Summary:

Kerbals. Aren't. Humans.

Just to reiterate for OP, this is how it should be. This is Kerbal Space Program, not Historically Accurate Human Space Program.

well, I guess humans have existed before robots, so in a sense it works....

but I really see what the OP means, isn't it really pointless to send probes out when you can get more science and send out a kerbal and not spend the science in the first place...

however, I still think probes will become much more valuable when you start to have to worry about $$$ .

Yup. They are stupider by orders of magnitude, but I guess since they can make rocket parts so they may have a few "sparks" of intellect. Also, they must have been blessed with luck for all their make-shift parts to work right and the fact that they could survive alone.

I believe the joke is that it's a reverse of human technology progression. The Kerbals created manned spaceflight, then unmanned, and then they invented the wheel. :)

Reading fairly far into it, the Kerbals so longed for space that they built capsules before even considering the usefulness of unmanned craft. Once their star-lust dulled down a bit, they were like "oh crap, it would be cool to have computers do some of this stuff for us" and eventually "I guess there are enough reasons to go putzing around on the ground, might as well develop some wheels." XD
