NASA does disco!

What's with the coloured lights in the ARM update SQUAD and with a NASA stamp of approval? A slider for the intensity of lights I could see a purpose for. Bad taste disco lighting what is the purpose? I can't stop thinking, they have made the coolest game on the planet look tacky. So KSP lovers/fans are the coloured lights in the ARM update a waste of Dev time better spent on other features , bug fixes etc or am I missing something?

Also can't find anything about disco lighting here http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/asteroids/initiative/#.UzKn-Skay0c

You're missing all the awesome potential! If I get time, and these are tweakable in the field, I am so making a "disco" gif using one of my bases.

Plus, it's perfect for warning lights, or green "go" for those who like to roleplay, or generally muck around.

Plus, I'm sure it wasn't that time consuming to make it possible to vary the colour components.

I don't know what the devs' purpose was in including the colored lights, but I will be using them to mark port and starboard on my ships to help with docking alignment.

Nice one. Makes sense. Might use it for this my self. Markers on the ports would be nicer though IMHO.

The lights are going to be used by exactly the sort of people who use too many animated emoji.

:D:confused::kiss::sticktongue:

Oh hang on, that's me...

Seriously though, apart from the orientation lights, this will be useful as a quick-n-dirty part painter. I suspect people will go completely nuts with it.

Don't think you need tweakables - different coloured lights turned on and off with action groups should do the job!

My first thoughts when i saw the color tweakable was the marking of large ships. Also they can be used as guide lights (with the use of a probe)

to align the plane with the runway during night time approaches. I believe this addition reduces the need to use mod parts with colors to do the same job.

There are some aspects in .23.5 that have nothing to do with NASA. The improved part connection joints are one example; the colored lights are another.

You could dim the the light by simply reducing rgb values equally... Thats how rgb works if i didnt get something wrong in the last 27 years as a graphician. And i will certainly use them as warning- and ready-lights. Nice little addition.

I don't care why they did it. I like having pretty lights on my vessels. I've been using the Nav Lights mod for this very purpose, and added a couple extra parts of my own to allow for the full spectrum.

Kinda also makes up for the fact that we can't paint our hulls whatever color we want (though that'd be a nice thing to have... someday...)

I think the colored lights are great! They'll be a lot of fun. However, I don't recall what video it was, but the lights seemed to cast what ever color, but looking at the light itself (lens) appeared to still be white. Did anybody else notice this?

Ooh, you could set up the lights to change colour for each rocket stage!

With red for the ABORT! ABORT! Stage, obvs.

Can you change the RGB settings through actions groups? If you could that would be amazing!

I'd probably use it to just add some interest to my ships. On a Duna mission, it will be tinted red, a Jool mission green etc :D
