[0.24.x] Stock ReBalance v1.4 | 11/09/14

Been using FAR and I haven't seen any issues.

I believe his configs (related to aerodynamic changes) are ignored if FAR is installed.

I vaguely recall that FAR uses ModuleManager to zero out the stock drag on stock parts with winglet or control surface modules. If SRB's patches to those parts were allowed to run after FAR's patches, unpleasantness would happen. Fortunately, all of those patches are protected by a :NEEDS[!FerramAerospaceResearch], so they don't conflict with FAR. Looks like a separate test for NEAR will have to be added.

Has anyone tried this with 0.25?

Not yet, but I know some of it will be broken. Off the top of my head:

- the small escape tower and massive SRB will likely have scaling problems.

- the SAS parts will be out of balance as the IRW is now 0.625m so SRB's values for it will be odd.

- the Mk2 adjustments reference parts that no longer exist.

- most, if not all, of the wing adjustments again reference parts that no longer exist.

Other than that, it should still be ok, but I haven't tested it.

if stupid_chris has his laptop back by now he's probably busy using it for his exciting new career in academia. sit tight.

Future note for future versions:

Reducing the mass of the launch stability arms to 0 caused supercrazy spring physics with heavy vessels now that joint strength is based on part mass. I tweaked mine way up to 4 tons and the problem went away. This does throw off the center of mass in the VAB again, but by the time I'm sticking launch clamps on, I'm done with the worrying-where-the-CoM-is part.

I'll admit, most of it is still usable, but things like the reaction wheels (standalone and in command pods/cores) need attention (in that it's targeting something that doesn't exist), the Mk55 got a decent buff in 0.90 (5 degree gimbal, Isp 320/360), all the SPP parts, the Mk3 parts, maybe probe core SAS modules need a look at, all probe cores cost got tweaked..

Also, I'm wondering how to adapt this to Stock Part Revamp as that changes some gimbal, adds new parts, also targets the structural pylon.. hmmm, we'll see.

Alright, a quick status update on this:

I haven't completely give up on this yet, but I definitely do not have as much time as I wish I had. Given Ted is working on the rebalance of parts, I won't be updating this before 1.0, and I'll look at what everything looks like after before deciding if it needs an update. I know Ted took a look at what I did here for the rebalance of most parts, and I'll give him a hand and I'll do my best so that what goes into 1.0 makes sense, but it doesn't mean it will. We'll see.

Hey just thought to trown this in here. Seems that stock needs a re-balance again, though given how things are somewhat unpredictable is better to wait if any more patches come out.

Could someone direct me to the Ted or other balance mod?

Ted is the QA lead. He balanced the actual game.

Though so much changed, this would take a lot of time to update. I don't currently have the time, so if I do it'll be at a much later point.

I'm currently trying to make my own rebalance, reworking from scratch my Kerbal Enhancement Project. And because I want my favorite mods to be balanced too, yes it take a very lot of time ^^"

Maybe we could join our efforts ?
