here's a still to simplify things:

fyi, 1 2 & 3 are all the same effect. variants of 'flamestandard' i believe, the normal 'flamestandard' fx is similar to the two smaller ones, just fewer particles. that will be the normal engine exhaust, just showing the scaling possibilities.

#1+2 are the KWrocketry edits, large and small versions

#3 is the NovaPunch2 small version

#6 is indeed the Ion effect

#9 was the Nuclear engine effect i used in the earlier video for the Impulse engine, but at the moment my favorite candidate is the effect to the right of it, which is actually the jet-engine fx

in the future i may make custom particles that will fit the models better, but i just dont have the time currently. (too much on my plate right now)

and i will definitely have an updated download in the first post later today, didnt get enough time at the PC to finish yesterday afternoon. if i can, it will include an xtras folder with variant engine cfgs so you can test out the different effects yourselves :)

Edit:

i was mistaken, the KW versions use a more "prickly" version

ok, final edit... :) i'll include 2&3 in an xtras folder

#1 will be default LFO exhaust

#2 will be a standard variant

#3 will be rawr-extreme variant (heehee)

V 0.3.2 is now ready and up! :)

Very Nice! Gonna download and test em tonight. By the way have you seen the Star Trek Impulse plugin that philotical is making for StarVisions Star Trek Mods. I had in fact not seen it, but now i will certainly go have a look :)

Now that I think about it #10 seems appropriate for impulse. It looks like a red variant of ion engines.

That was my thought as well. once all the parts textures and w/e else comes up is finished, i will give a go at creating custom particles to even better match everything, and i want some sort of flame on the impulses like the red one, but with more of an orangish tint. IIRC we never really saw any exhaust from trek impulse engines (with the exception of the blue ion-like version from Enterprise), just a glow with an orangish tint on the models vents.

You could make it even subtler than the ion fx.

wow, very nice, I will try them out was just looking for star trek style engine, man it would be so great to be able to make shuttle and star trek ships, but with these we can make half a star trek ship :)

fooling around with these, made a few textures and changed the size by 3 x, it all depends on the ship u want to make for size, but for me 3 x seems ok I think, as it seems to be around most size engine, so they fit on most planes,etc

They work great , but not enough power. changing the cfg file :) Mr spock we got full power

Glad you like them mjy :) and ive been careful to keep them low powered so far, i want them to be real options in career mode. but nothing wrong with some custom cfg edits! i've been known to tinker myself, hehe.

And Cpt. atm i had only been doing the Phase 2, Escelsior, and Voyager engines as ION, and was planning to only do the Impulse variants off those. since the way i figure it, a long-range craft with ION engines might need the impulse drives, and might not have regular propulsion, that way the engines will match aesthetically.

So I was noticing an interesting effect with an engine or two today, using HotRockets and the Impulse engines here. The particle stream from one of the engines (cant remember which one, atm, I can find that later) emits from the aft of the engine, well and proper. However, it flows in the direction the craft is travelling, like you were dumping glittery confetti out, rather than streaming out the back like exhaust. Only noticible when doing burns to match plane, or retrograde, but definitely noticible. I'll see if I can remember the engine here in a bit, possibly tomorrow.

Hey there guys, yeah, we went to visit family and spent a few weeks on the boat.

i'll check out the impulse engines, i didnt really test them this release for functionality, only that the FX was lined up in the right spots. maybe a thrust point got screwed up somewhere.

i see lots of updates since the last time too, :) wheee.

well, after playing around with new career mode a bit, i realize my witty attempt at part descriptions dont really fit with v24: since the parts all have the same price-tag. also, i never realized i have at least one of the Ion engines available way to early, as there are no fuel tanks available (at least the way i usually unlock the tech tree).

so, i'll be rebalancing again, and will try to get the E-E engine done (also now have a SRB on the drawing board, in a Defiant style, as long as i can get an integrated decoupler going not sure if it will work).

The last engine I worked on was the Constitution Refit (0ac2). I have to say it's my least favourite engine out of the whole selection, partly because it's not as similar to the "real" engine like the other ones, particularly the sides around what should be the collector. Also it's too curvy. It just doesn't look right to me. Also the way you made it makes it very difficult to create colliders for it. I wish I had paid more attention to it before starting texturing it. In fact I almost finished it before I realised how weird it was.

I don't suppose I could convince you to redo it?

well, i remember when making it i had to make strange choices to get all the elements to fit in the smaller and shorter package. its basically just an edit off the phase-2 as a base, i think i may have widened it a bit though.

I dont know why that engine has always given me fits, on my full scale recreation (a 20 year wip.... rofl) ive re-worked that nacelle at least 50 times.

i'll see what i can do with it, i'd rather get it right than let it be lackluster.

I kind of think this was your mistake.

Would you mind if I tried to do it? I'll try to do the phase 2 one as well if it's really similar.

It's a little bit similar, but the Refit doesn't have that quater-sphere. I think this is why it looks odd to me.

I'll be happy to redo both of them in your style.
