Hey guys,

I've decided that I want to start a KSP skype group.

If you would like to join the live chatter regarding KSP on skype, just drop your username here or in a PM! :)

EDIT: If you are already in the group, you are allowed to add members that drop there skype here, so it's not entirely dependent on me.

I probably won't be able to take calls all that often, but a general chat room would be nice. jodominecraft.

I'll add you in a sec, once I'm done building this rocket.

Skype+KSP+Firefox=Slow as hell

Must say I am failing to see the need to create yet another chat about KSP.

In case it wasn't known, there already is a IRC channel (#KSPOfficial) on Esper.net, everybody can connect using the IRC Chat button on the top line of this website.

Plus, there's plenty of people using that channel (including very knowledgeable ones), so you'll never feel lonely; you don't reveal any private info about yourself to join; you don't have to keep another application open to chat while also visiting the forum.

Why is it such an inconvenience to "have to keep another application open to chat while also visiting the forum" if I always have Skype open anyway as I figure most people who will actively use a group like this already do?

Opening IRC and navigating back to the tab or having multiple browser windows to check back on is more of a chore for me than alt+TAB

Count me in OP, PM me for my skype

You do reveal your IP adress, which gives away your location.

It seems you perceive your security based on what you can see. Unfortunately things work very differently (security on internet is a tragedy because on such misperceptions).

Any time you connect to a service on Internet, you give away you IP address. It's unavoidable, because of the way IP works. You can't get anything back, if the remote server can't know where to send it. Skype is no exception, but it won't (directly) give away your IP, it acts as a middleman allowing P2P communications: it gives your IP to anyone able to see your contact address.

(don't believe me: believe any of the many who found out, just google Skype + IP address).

If you are concerned about not giving the IP address away, there is a possibility: use an anonymizer. You then can't connect to any service requiring registration (e.g., no forum access, and no Skype either), 'cause those check against your IP address that you're that user when logging. But (*surprise*) you will be able to connect and use IRC, because you don't need to log, you just provide an username of your choice.

actually, skype allows you to use proxies to mask your IP, one of my friends uses VPNs also, and there is an option in Skype settings to disallow direct IP connections so skype resolving websites can't pluck your IP from your username â€â€*"Allow direct connections to my contacts only" under Advanced tab on Mac OS X version. anyway Diomeda if you're so adamant about using IRC then go use it, the existence of a skype group isn't going to rob you of any users who weren't all that keen on using skype in the first place, and you're pretty obviously just here advertising for IRC.

If you'd like to make a skype group, no one is stopping that from happening :) It would be in an unofficial capacity, of course. diomedea was just making note of other options, should some not be aware of them.
