Finally! The Eve Ascent Plane.

Have you ever had a dream you couldn't give up on? A design that went through hundreds of iterations to get working or get right? Well this was mine. To get a Kerbal off the surface of Eve without resorting to having to build a 200 ton monster, (although in hindsight that might have been easier).

The plane is stock, with the exception of MechJeb, which I only used for information purposes. It wasn't a pretty ascent, nor is it a pretty plane, but it got the job done.

Infini-assisted. The control surfaces generate thrust when SAS is enabled.

Might as well use the atmosphere to your advantage.

Yeah it's a crazy design but it's the only design I could get to work.

Seriously though, I have 2 objections:

A. Won't work in FAR

B. It's exploitative(is that a word? ^^) of the game's lame (to say the least) atmospheric model.

I've included the craft file in the original post if any brave souls are willing to try this themselves. Use SAS sparingly at low altitudes. There are no yaw controllable surfaces for stability purposes so you will have to roll and pitch a lot. You can Hyperedit the ship around Eve or build a transfer vehicle for it.

Also, as a bonus, I have included the original version that got into LKO. No need for engines, just flap to get above 30 m/s, pitch to 50 degrees and engage SAS. RUD may occur.

Most know that infinite glide can take you to orbit, no reason for it not to work on Eve or Jool that that reason.

Now would an ion powered plane work, with the new engines it look like it should work with However I suck at planes.

It may be a bit of an exploit, but good infinigliders aren't simple to build. Plus the final speeder bike type stage looks awesome. Well done, this is an impresive achievement.

I also enjoyed how the kerbals expression goes from smugg to excited as he goes up.

Thanks for the positive feedback. It's more a bit of fun than anything. I did initially try and refit the Kerbin Wing for ion engines but didn't have a lot of success. Although they have amazing ISP they are too heavy and don't have enough TWR to punch out of the atmosphere. Perhaps if I used the Eve Wing with ions I would have more success however the burn times are typically too long to circularise at apoapsis.
