Flags on Asteroids

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to plant a flag at all? I havent been able to while buzzing around on jetpack. But what about landing one on say minimus or the mun and planting one using the moons gravity so you can walk. Then launch it back into orbit. Has anyone tried this? Or have a better idea?

Would be nice if the devs let us invent stickyboots for zero-g walking. Kerbals have duct tape right?

I stumbled across this "old" and very interesting post, it got me thinking. If you accept using some mods?

1. You need KAS http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/53134-Kerbal-Attachment-System

2. and this flagpole http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/46856-0-21-1-Flag-Decals-and-Flagpole-New-File-Structure

3. a little rough & ready Module Manager http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55219-Module-Manager-2-1-5-%28May-22%29 configuration magic;

@PART[flagpole]
{
TechRequired = basicRocketry
MODULE
{
name = KASModuleGrab
evaPartPos = (0.0, 0.0, -0.15)
evaPartDir = (0,0,-1)
storable = True
storedSize = 1
attachOnPart = True
attachOnEva = False
attachOnStatic = True
customGroundPos = True
}
}

and Presto we have claimed this particular space rock for the Land Down Under! :cool:

Next idea mentioned here to consider was the "sticky boots", which is also a very good idea indeed...

As for the Canadarm 2, if you look closely you'll see the bars over the astronaut's feet. He's clipped in, like how a skier's boots are clipped to their skis, not stuck on.

Yes, I understand the foot restraint, he is clamped in by his feet, not sticky tape. I wonder if a KSP part could be made to achieve the same effect? A command seat affair, but one that holds the Kerbal in a standing position and ideally, still able to grab things somehow. I suppose the stock Pegasus I Mobility Enhancer part already provides some of this functionality. I have never tried to KAS attach one of those to an asteroid, nor to a Magic Smoke Industries robotic arm for that matter. I need to check it out.

"Sticky" is still not silly though... Velcro we know about, also the flight attendant's slippers in the Boeing spaceplane scene in 2001, etc.
