O mememe..Id like some critique on my part toooo:P

Lol, ok.

I seriously considered voting for that part. It'sss....indescribable. I mean it's a mish-mash of shapes, which is in a way good, because it could well be a computer casing, but those grey legs look out of place. I think they're clamps but they don't look enough like clamps. The cables look good. Texturing is ok. Black usually looks good for some reason.

Actually it kind of looks like a processor and fan assembly.

I think we should make constructive criticism a rule for this project.

Thanks. I dunno what i was thinking with those struts on the sides. i wanted some extra details and some way to make it attach flush to a rounded surface even tho the base is flat but didnt know what to put there. This was the best thing that came to mind.

The mesh is based on a cross between this:

And this

They are both real world reaction wheels. Since i thought it would be the most space demanding feature of such a part. Tho in a radial configuration like this it wouldnt be able to provide equal force in any direction. Actually if i where to make a part for this purpose without the constraint of the topic i would make it an inline part or possibly a nosecone

I really like yours. It definitely stands out as original by not looking at all like any other submissions. The only major suggestion I would have for yours is some defining details on the top of it to make it stand out a little more. Lights or something like that. When I first saw it, I pictured it being an animated part in which the clasp-looking things on the sides unlatched and the top opened, allowing an antenna to extend.

Speaking technically, I think if you'd made your edges hard it would have looked a lot better. Smoothing something without regard for face angles makes models look bad.

Actually there are hard edges almost everywhere in that model but I think now I see what you're talking about. Probably smoothing groups issue.

Thank you for the feedback.

I like the model but I couldn't really tell what it is. Doesn't look like a computer of any kind to me. But then, this is what makes it different. Texture is too simple to my liking.

My cue! :) And my usual disclaimer, please keep in mind that everything here is completely personal opinion, and should be treated as such.

I like the simplicity of your design. I has a very utilitarian feel to it. As you mentioned, the texture could use some work (and as I constantly point out, I should be the last person saying that). For me, it seems a bit too symmetrical. Most of the components are centered vertically and equidistant from each other and the edges. The antenna helps a bit, but I would have shrunk the red button (light?) a bit and moved it to one side and then placed something on the other side. Keypads and batteries seem popular, but it could be something as simple as an access panel or sign added through texturing. There are also a lot of sharp, perpendicular edges, which adds to the symmetry.

I should also mention that I seem to be offering a lot of criticism in this thread, especially for someone who has yet to make an entry in the contest. I'm hoping to spark some discussions and encourage others to offer feedback, but feel free to tell me to back off.

Thank you, The red button is supposed to be like the scroll wheel on the original iPod, which is the inspiration for the part. (I went through 4 other variations of the part, and decided on that because it would be easiest to texture.) I don't understand why people add keypads to a probe, if it is supposed to operate itself who would be punching in numbers?

Thank you for the feed back, I would like to have some criticism early before I develop bad habits. :P

hate to be the one to ask this but starvision i actually would like your probe body... not as in in the votes but to have... (sorry i like starvisions probe too :P) if you could pm me it or whatever that would be great ^.^

Sure. I hadn't actually put it into the game when I made it, but I just did now. Here it is:

I knew Snjo was all experienced (that's why I didn't vote last time...) but his model is absoloutley creative and amazing. I love it! So cute!

Thank you! I tried to animate the eye and eyelids, inspired by a recent fourth playthrough of Portal 2, but it looked weird when the eyeball rotated, cause it would stick out of the head in weird ways at different rotations. Dunno how to do that well for an eye unless it's high poly (also I tried to do it while squashing the scale in a parent transform for added weirdness). I could have done it with texture offsets, but you can't animate that apparently.

Haven't tried all the submissions for this week's part, but do have a bit of feedback on a couple. IMO RobotEngineers's and Darkside's parts are way too big. They should probably be 1/2 or smaller of their current size.
