I have updated the table again.

This might be a good time to thank everyone for participating so far. So... thankyou all!

Those are a lot of questions for those that did the test. Hopefully you find the results as interesting as I do.

I'm an anarchist who suffers from oppositional defiance disorder.

DSM-IV. ODD – which is characterised as an "ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behaviour"

I love junk science! Where are the men in white suits? I'm ready to be taken away!

I have updated the table yet again. Up to 33 samples now. I know a statistician may scoff at it, but I think I can safely draw a conclusion that the forums are a Hug Free Zone. That's good to know, and I'm perfectly ok with that.

What's the line that divides a INTJ from a INFP on the hugs. I LURVE!!!! hugs.

I don't think it has anything to do with being an INTJ much at all actually. Just the fact that I would bet most of us here come from touch averse cultures (U.S.A, U.K, Germany, Etc). These cultures think of touch as inappropriate. Since J types tend to be hardline on what they consider acceptable, T types tend to think logically (as in, they follow prescribed rules in a consistent fashion) and I types don't tend to like many people anyway, they don't like to be hugged.

I am fully convinced an Italian, Hispanic, or French INTJ would have much less problems with hugs.

Although I have been tested twice, I thought it only be proper to do the 72 questions from the link in my original post...

Introvert(89%) iNtuitive(88%) Thinking(100%) Judging(22%)

You have strong preference of Introversion over Extraversion (89%)

You have strong preference of Intuition over Sensing (88%)

You have strong preference of Thinking over Feeling (100%)

You have slight preference of Judging over Perceiving (22%)

Hmmm... thats a lot of "strong preference" there, a bit worrying. Looks like I have drifted back to J. Possibly an effect of work last few years and more maturity with age. I will pencil in some more viewings of The Big Lebowski on my to-do list.

What's the line that divides a INTJ from a INFP on the hugs.

Internet memes about MBTI types tend to be caricatures, so not to be taken too seriously.

Adding to what AmpsterMan said about "T types". For an INTJ, the Auxiliary Function is Extraverted Thinking. So Thinking is how the outside world is engaged, and it is very practical for many things. However it does not lend itself to the touchy-feely kind of behaviour. Furthermore, the Tertiary Function is Introverted Feeling (yes - INTJs have feelings, but they are on the inside!). So add it all up and INTJs do like hugging, but only really for people that are very emotionally close to them.

That's a good anaylsis Bsalis! I feel like it is difficult to talk about the MBTI in any depth without considering the functions as described by Carl Jung. Really, I feel like the MBTI is more useful as a means to an end rather than an end to itself. In other words, it tells you things about your personality in broad strokes but shouldn't be used for deep analysis. The Functions, however, can get a bit more in depth and I find they can be more descriptive and nuanced. Ex. For me, I find Ti,Ne,Si,Fe to be much more descriptive of WHY I tend to approach the world in a certain way than just "INTP".

Also, the functions allow us to see the very clear differences between INTJ and INTP, I think the most often confused personality types.

INTP: Ti,Ne,Si,Fe

INTJ: Ni,Te,Fi,Se

As you can see, according to the MBTI you would think the personalities are super similar. But when you look at the Functions, they don't see the world in any way remotely close! My favorite nickname for INTP is "The Thinker" for the INTJ "The Scientist"; they are superficially similar, but when you get past the outer shell, you see very different parts on the inside.

I wonder why Jung didn´t expand it to a 3 state system for each position.

Like for example for the first one:

(I)ntroverted, ()No significant Preference, (E)xtroverted

with (if we take the scoring of the text) for example:

Introverted = 100-25% preference for Introverted

No significant preference = < 25% introverted - < 25% Extroverted

Extroverted = 100-25% preference for Extroverted

Which would turn my own profile, for example, from INTJ to INJ as I have < 25% preference for thinking over feeling

IMHO it would make more sense than a binary system where slight preferences and extreme ones are put together into a single letter code

(and I could imagine that most humans with this kind of lettering would have just 2-3 letters, as there are usually more mixed bags than extremes)

Updated the table again... just for you robopilot99!

Keep them coming people. Would be nice to see a clearer pattern among the non-INT types.

Wish everyone had posted the %s we could really compile some interesting data from everyone's preferences.

I went back and retook the test, then edited my post (#2) with the detailed results.

The wording on the test needs to be updated. For example, what the heck do I do with this question?

4. You feel involved when watching TV soaps

I answered NO as I don't watch soap operas, nor do I know anyone who does. But perhaps the question would be better worded as:

You feel involved when watching emotionally charged programs.

To which I would answer YES.

What's the line that divides a INTJ from a INFP on the hugs. I LURVE!!!! hugs.

I might be an exception to the rule, but I'm INTJ (As far as I know) and I absolutely love hugs as long as they're from somebody I trust and am comfortable with. If some random person comes up and gives me a hug unexpectedly, I'll do anything to get them off of me.

I'm an INTJ and I have loved hugs since I could get girls to give them to me. Boy hugs not so much.

For me personally I kinda stretched the definition of Soaps, for that one. I haven't watched daytime soaps in a long long time, but I do watch and get emotionally involved with things like Glee and Teen Wolf, they're pretty close but not true serials. And Babylon 5 fits every definition of soap opera.

I might be an exception to the rule, but I'm INTJ (As far as I know) and I absolutely love hugs as long as they're from somebody I trust and am comfortable with. If some random person comes up and gives me a hug unexpectedly, I'll do anything to get them off of me.

Well I kinda meant that to be understood, I would get really creeped out if a stranger hugged me without permission, (they may get pepper spray) but if I even sligthly count you as friend then yeah we can hug.

I'm an INTJ and I have loved hugs since I could get girls to give them to me. Boy hugs not so much.

Don't mind boy hugs, as long as they aren't thinking it will get them something more, trying to cop a feel, or just using the hug to touch a girl. So yeah not to common is that.

INFP

Introvert(44%) iNtuitive(38%) Feeling(25%) Perceiving(56%)

The 44% introversion is that while I enjoy hanging out with small groups of people, anything higher than 6 people and anything lower than 2 make me feel extremely uncomfortable. I do have a tendency to understand things easily, and rely on intuition more than anything to solve problems. Reasoning is a strong part of my repertoire, though more often than not I do tend to let emotion take over my actions. And I've been told time to time that I have wicked perception. I can spot typographical errors instantly just by skimming over a text.

Yup, this test is pretty accurate. In the "Career Choices" segment it lists that psychology, writing, music, and humanitarian qualities are among the things I take interest in, with a strong tendency towards design. Since all of those are key elements in video game development, it's not surprising that I want to do game design. Also, all of those traits are themes for the Persona JRPG series, which are my absolute favorite eastern RPG games. Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers were geniuses, that's for sure.

Another small table update.

Again, i'm no statistician, but there does seem to be a couple of significant bumps....

* 4 ENTJs now, at 9.76% vs gen pop 1.8%. It is a very rare type! However, I was actually expecting more ENT- types, since I think they would be drawn to the game.

* 4 INFPs now, at 9.76% vs gen pop 4.4%. Possibly too early to make a call on that.

edit: Spotted this a while ago, and thought I would plonk it down here...
