Lighting in IVA, Unity.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Could somebody tell me how to set up lights in the IVA model in Unity.

Here is what I have currently.

In game however, the light only illuminates the kerbals; whilst leaving the capsule dark.

Thanks for any help!

You can just place the default point lights and they will work. It is what I use for my IVA. If you want them to turn off and on your going to have to use Raster Prop Monitor.

Hi!

Unfortunately this is not working :( .

Do the lights need to be in a specific layer in Unity to work?

Thanks.

In TT's cockpit tutorial he mentions two different layers, one that only shows up for Kerbals, and one that shows up for everything in IVA. You basically set up the whole IVA, then flag the parent with which one you need and the child objects should pick up the same flag.

Nope, no good unfortunately :(

Whatever layer I am putting the models or lights in, they aren't lit in game.

I am really getting pretty desperate with this. I must be missing something quite simple.

Your issue came along just as I was about to close Unity so I have a pic for you of the hierarchy, there's ne need to name the lights InteriorLights, I do that because I like nice neat labels, but you can clearly see the lights in the hierarchy and the relationship to everything else, the lights are untagged and on the default layer, meaning you create them, drop them in the hierarchy and you're done, these do work in game as expected.. PS ignore first game object that's the exterior.

Thanks for the reply!

But no, it won't work. My setup is identical to yours.

As you can see, Kerbal is lit up, cabin is not.

What on earth is happening.

Hey , it's one of those things that i just do and forget to mention, anything i want illuminated has to be in the Internal space layer , layer 20, and anything that you want to see in the camera , lemme get a pic hang on, has to be in the Kerbals layer , layer 16,

so the hull and consoles are all in the Internal Space layer

and the computers etc visible in the camera are all in the Kerbals layer

This is interesting then!

My interior (the mesh) is in the internal space layer, but it is still visible in the IVA cameras.

But no matter what layer it is on, it doesn't get lit up.

I have the actual seats themselves on the kerbal layer and have a separate game object for ex, named Seat1 or whatever for the seat transform and this transform is in the default layer, my face is begining to match match Bills but without the tash. What is the range of the lights set at?, as i noticed just while fiddling that it makes a huge diff to what does and doesn't get illuminated, i leave mine at default which is.... 10, just checked

The light is just a standard point light dropped in.

The only thing I've changed is the intensity (to 0.75), but even setting intesity to max does nothing to the capsule.
