B9 Aerospace interim maintenance pack

So, because the CC-BY-NC-SA license permits it (given attribution of course), I have taken the liberty to combine the modpack proper with the fixes, so people can download one thing. I have put it all on my GitHub, which will also allow for decent support for e.g. collaborative development, download of files, etc. Let me know if I got any attribution wrong, left anyone out, or if, against expectation, things aren't working.

The download is here, versioned as v4.1.

The github repos is https://github.com/gertsonderby/b9interim - pull requests and issue reports welcome.

I think this is actually a good idea to have this in the development forum and not the release forum, at least for the time being. B9 does need some work, and having it on Github will help out considerably. Perhaps when KSP 0.24 comes out, and we have B9 fully updated for it, we can create an official release thread.

Another thing considering the 0.23.5 patch: the patch was only meant as a temporary solution and not a permanent solution. We used a "fix thread" when KSP 0.23 was out, because everyone thought that the author's hiatus would end sooner than what it has along with the agreement that if the author did not return by the time the next version of KSP was released, a MM patch would be developed to help extend the life of the mod. That MM patch was the 0.23.5 patch.

If we are going to be releasing the B9 pack in its entirety, then there is no need for a MM patch; we can directly edit the cfg files. This eliminates the requirement for MM and eliminates a point of failure that was not present in the original mod.

In addition, I think before we make a release, a message should be sent to the original author asking him about his plans for B9. Since we do not know what he's planning, it is a possibility that he could be working on a release 5 and is simply not telling anyone; I read somewhere in the release thread that the author had a number of unreleased parts back before Christmas. Of course I don't know how true that is.

The other, I hope you don't mind me doing this on GitHub, but I would like to document some of the known issues, as there are some issues that even the 0.23.5 patch does not address (such as the disappearing CoM bug with two of the turbojets).

I really would just stick to MM patches (or your own modifications) rather than direct distribution of the author's work while he's still alive and kicking somewhere. Basically this hijacks his download count, which is actually a professionally quantifiable resume builder. Patching, modding additional, or expanding on his existing work would enhance his download count along with yours instead of borrowing from it. Until he turns over his work to someone, please just stick to patching or building on his work...its very easy to do - and undo if/when he updates his own pack.

What you could do is make a direct patch which only contains the files you modified.

Also, looking at the distribution package, I would either go with MMconfigs entirely OR modfied .cfg overwrites, not both.

That works then. I'll stick with MM cfgs for the time being.

Maybe he should maintain it then.

The longer this goes unfixed the fewer numbers he deserves.

The fixes were done by others, and then OP compiled those. That's work.

B9 update is in the works and mostly depends on the free time of Taverius who has to look over new configs. Some changes:

- Reworked HL part set, everything is now using just one texture instead of four

- New HL parts (proper tail without a cargo door, new 2.5m/3.75m adapters, round versions of some parts.

- New MK2 bicoupler (short one, very useful for some designs)

- New set of massive station-building parts, somewhat similar to LLL designs (all using one texture, around 20 part types, including engines and 4-point docking ports)

*picks up jaw from floor*

That's awesome news. I cannot overstate how excited I am about those massive parts. I remember when you teased them, but I'd pretty much given up on them ever being released.

Bac9, that's truly awesome to hear.

Raven.: Well, as I said, I take pull requests easy enough. I'm perfectly willing to hold the rope on the interim maint pack, until such time as Bac9 and Taverius are ready with the real thing.

I don't really know, either, that this pack will hurt the downloads any - and if it did and that's a problem, consider relicensing to something more restrictive? I went from the Open Source Software ethos of, if you're allowed to do it, then you're allowed to do it - and if it means a net benefit to everyone, then you should do it.

I'm going to need a new jaw. It's fallen so far through the floor, I doubt it's coming back.

I think its really close actually, though I can't speak for their schedule. I'm working a few more toys into the D12 expansion in preparation. D12 will be ready to go on the same day the B9 update comes out. They were nice enough to let me see what they were up to so the packs could be coordinated better. Snjo put in most everything on their wishlist so they could finish their work, including configurable fuel tanks, meshes, and textures for more variety and catalog/memory optimization.

It will be a very merry Christmas for aircraft fans when it does hit.
