There is a scientific theory that explains however that kerbals have similiar regenerative properties as lizards. This is based on the observation that they are green. Just as we have found out by examining their green spectrum that they are immune to radiation.

They're not "fingers", they're tentacles! As I've explained before, Kerbals are similar to Earth's cephalopods and have no bones, rather two pairs of tentacles with mini-tentacles on the ends.
