Did some more work today, focusing on making yet another Soyuz retexture, this time one that hopefully will fit better with stock Tantares. Once Beale releases his Shenzou OM, I'll most likely get to work on a retexture for that as well!

Planeguy, I got your textures to work and I love them! However, I noticed that they don't have RPM installed! Is it something to do with the way RPM installs, or do your textured parts have copied IVAs? Is there a simple fix for it, and will it be included in your next update?

As of right now, TMA does not have RPM support, nor do I plan to add it in the near future. Sorry. TMA uses the base Tantares internals, but that's all I know about RPM.

Tantares Solar Wind Particle Return Mission:

SWPRM Begins its mission on an Ariane 5. It was too big to fit inside a Proton fairing, so I had to use a 3.75 lifter. N1 was bviously too powerful, so I went with Ariane. This later proved to be my undoing...

Ariane booster separation. I didn't put any separation motors on them, and I just used the R7 radial decoupler, so I didn't get a clean separation, and they crashed into each other and exploded a few seconds after this screenshot was taken.

Fairing jettison. SWPRM is go for orbit.

Spacecraft in orbit with its small kick stage, used for putting the satellite on a transfer orbit to its final altitude. I think I nailed the "Soviet look" with this one.

Kick stage performing the burn for altitude. In hindsight, i probably should have used Block D. With the spacecraft's weight (10 tons), the Salyut engine could only give me less than 500 m/s of Delta V.

SWPRM circularizing its orbit. I was able to get a 600 kilometer orbit, after spending all of the kick motor's fuel and most of the spacecraft's fuel. Nowhere near as impressive as the original mission, which was placed out beyond Minmus.

Spacecraft antennae and collector panels deployed. The panels have been slightly increased in size with Tweakscale.

Disclaimer: Real solar wind collectors do not look like this, I was just having some fun.

One week later, I got bored and decided to bring it down. Unfortunately, every time I loaded the craft from the Tracking Station, the Kraken paid a visit, and the spacecraft would go into a brief period of violent convulsions, which caused the panels and the fairings on the return capsule to be ripped off. In some cases, the entire panel parts were ripped off, and in others, the panels just broke off, like they do when extended in atmospheric flight.

Return capsule landed. Recovery crews will head out in the morning to search for the capsule and bring it back to KSC.

A few things happened during the mission that I wasn't happy with, so maybe I will do a Mk III version someday.

Did you delete Tantares, redownload it, redownload and reinstall Firespitter and ModuleManager.

Click on the most recent link I posted to the TMA pack, download it again, reinstall that. I'll double check the configs but I think it might be something with how you installed it because I fixed that problem already.

Remember, this requires Tantares to be installed.

EDIT: I'm 90% sure that you have the old bugged version of TMA installed.

Do these exact steps:

1) Delete your Tantares folder in Gamedata.

2) Redownload Tantares. Make sure it's the newest version.

3) Reinstall Tantares.

4) Install Firespitter and ModuleManager. Links are in the ReadMe inside the TMA download.

5) Download Tantares TMA again from the link in this post.

6) Reinstall Tantares TMA.

The issue you are describing is the exact one I fixed with TMA 0.3.6, so you must not be using the most recent version.

Tantares, as is most of my mods, are being managed by CKAN. ModuleManager and FireSpitter are up to date although looking at the TMA configs i don't see this utilized for them. I don't have procedural fairings installed, and did not copy the fairings folder to my GameData folder.

Redownload and reinstall TMA and Tantares (hint: it's in the post you quoted), because if you're getting that error your TMA install is not up to date. That last upload I released fixed a typo in the configs (the MODEL still referenced the stock Tantares parts, not the TMA folders).

MM and firespitter are used mainly for the fairings.

I was planning something like this, focused on ISRU (on a smaller scale than the giant stock parts) - I think that's more in line with... Luna-Poligon?

Thanks! I'm very happy with the basic probe block, it's very adaptable. You can replace the collector arms with regular solar panels, add a Priorda antenna, and boom! You have a long range interplanetary probe! Add a docking port, and you have a Russian Agena! I bet it also fits inside Mk 3 cargo bays.

Looking for the update mate, everything is looking fine, recolours and vostok so far, the dishes are also pretty welcome, there are never enough greebles :) .

It's been time I didn't have a proper journey on KSP, when the vostok is done, there will be some, and plenty of screenshots :P !

hey beale since you are doing stuff to gemini I had a thought about the service module and launch vehicle namely

Does the "Black King" kinda look like a Titan 2 too you? maybe if you squint at it? either way having the british parts pull double duty would mean you can scratch another launch vehicle off the list though it would also mean redoing the service module as a straight instead of a cone. It wouldn't be accurate to the real life vehicle, but it would solve the bugs people have with it by separating the decoupler from the engine.

That is a surprisingly good fit, it's true!

Buuuuut, I'm not so sure for a few reasons:

  • I'm a little crazy for the tapered engine, the combined engine decoupler is an awful compromise and does cause problems (KER significantly) - but I think it is integral to the look (Any suggestions for tapered engine and separate decoupler I welcome very much).
  • Titan II also, I would really love to take an attempt of - has a very unique appearance and will be fun to texture.

Where do I get the orbital module docking cupola bit I've seen is some screen caps?

Nobody knows where this is? I've checked all the orbital models in game and none have this bit, even installed the TMA version and still don't have the cupola bit. Am I missing something?

Interesting concept of how to do it, but unfortunately it would limit it to be used by one decoupler only (specially designed for the depth of the recess).

Would anyone care to show me how to make a MM patch so I could give Tantares CLS support?

Not sure how CLS is set up, but if you look at some of the existing MM patches, it should be simple to see how they work :)

This pic from the front page clearly shows a cupola on the orbital module. Hmmm...looking closely it might be something else clipped into the OM.
